With a game like this, following a losing skid that has seen the Celtics drop 7 of their past 10 game, it would be easy to blame the injuries to Garnett or any other member of this decimated team but these recent losses are starting to become a cause for concern. The team is limping towards the playoffs and is in danger of losing its position in the seeding. To make matters worse all the momentum they were riding from the Rondo injury is gone and with it possibly the chemistry. The thing that seems to be the most harmful is streaky nature of this team and its players. Many of these guys have gone through stretches where their ineffective shooting the ball and unproductive on the court and some of them (Terry, Lee, Bradley) are going through it now. The playoffs are almost here and the worst way to tackle that challenge is with inconsistency. The Celtics came out the gate and didn't have their Captain with them, always a troubling sign, and had their recent star Jeff Green get into foul trouble. Both teams made impressive runs and the game was Jeff Green was outplayed for the first time in a whilewith Thompson's dominating performance  back in forth until the Cavaliers took over  in the fourth quarter. Tristan Thompson dominated the entire game inside the paint and had career highs in points and rebounds(29&17). The Celtics had been winning the rebounding margin early on led by Shavlick Randolph's rebounding and surprise offensive outburst. Sadly is in recent games the team wore down and stopped making the right plays. Avery Bradley's 3-12 shooting didn't indicate he was coming out of his slump and his inability to knock down open shots hurt the team's momentum. The bench wasn't able to spark much momentum either as both Crawford and Terry struggled with their shots. Their up and down play is concerning as the most important part of the season approaches and the pressure intensifies. Crawford's inconsistency continues and his spot in the rotationshould be questioned. This type of momentum doesn't bode well for an early round matchup with Indiana or New York will test the team and their seasons future so they need to be clicking on all cylinders. Garnet's return couldn't come sooner as the season is spiraling out of control. The defense isn't playing with as great intensity while heroic performances and isolation plays are being a bigger part of the offense. The team's youth is starting to show more in the game as most these guys want to run and take some questionable shots. Games like tonight show Rondo's importance since his control and imprint on a game could halt the sloppy offense and pick apart the defense. This team needs to get healthy and play some games down the stretch to regain some chemistry and identity. Garnett and Pierce's leadership are needed and the stretch run is quickly going by. Personally I hope the Celtics keep the 7th seed and face the Knicks. If the team is healthy and can regain their defensive edge they can frustrate New York and advance in the playoffs. Facing Miami in the condition this teams in while they're streaking like they are would be too much in the first round. P.S. Paul Pierce naming his son Prince Paul Pierce is the reason I love this guy. If his son isn't playing professional basketball with a name like that it would be a shame. Imagine Tommy calling his shots PRINCE FOR THREE!!!! [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Your Morning Dump… Where Avery Bradley’s bruised collarbone will be fine

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “[Irving] went to the basket, came down, and elbowed me right on my collarbone. It’s just a little swollen,” Bradley said, later adding, “It hurts, but I’ll be fine. I get injured all the time. I’ll...

Jeff Green has been all smiles since March hitDoc Rivers spoke in practice about Green’s starting gig once KG gets back, saying that he has wanted to start the Georgetown product for quite some time, but his play has only recently justified that decision (via ESPN Boston):“I was hoping (to start Green consistently at some point),” Rivers said. “That was my intention. We weren’t...

Why Pierce Missed Monday's Game

If you were watching Sunday night's contest in New York, you may have noticed Paul Pierce icing his ankle late in the fourth quarter. The Truth had suffered a sprain to that ankle earlier in the game and as a result he missed Monday night's match-up at Minnesota. But was it really all just because of a bum ankle? Celtics insider, A. Sherrod Blakely, had originally reported...

Jeff Green and Paul Pierce work together to create mismatches for opponents

Jeff Green and Paul Pierce have been working well together on offense.Doc Rivers recently told the media that during the playoffs, he is considering using a lineup that includes Paul Pierce and Jeff Green both starting at shooting guard and small forward. This was obviously a revelation, since what would presumably be the playoff starting lineup (Bradley-Pierce-Green-Bass-Garnett...

Paul Pierce Missed Game for Birth of Son, Prince, Warns That Child Will Be Ready to Play in 18 Years

When players miss games for ambiguous “personal reasons,” fans are left to wonder just how important those reasons were. In Paul Pierce‘s case, they were important personally — but also for the team, if Pierce’s prediction turns out to be true. The Celtics linchpin skipped Monday night’s game because his first son was being born. He announced the news to WEEI on Wednesday...

Bradley Survives Injury Scare As Short-Handed Celtics Lose To Cavs

Cavs 97, Celtics 91 Another lackluster performance from the Celtics did not affect their standing in the playoff race as the Bucks also lost on Friday night, but it seems as though the playoffs can’t come soon enough for this aging team. Paul Pierce (ankle/rest) and Kevin Garnett (ankle/rest) were both absent during Boston’s home game against the Cavaliers, and the rest of the...

Celtics-Cavaliers Live: Jeff Green, Celts Look for Much Less Exciting Win Against Cleveland

8 a.m. ET: The last time the Celtics and Cavaliers met up, Jeff Green provided a thrilling ending. The Celtics would probably prefer if things were not so exciting this time. Having snapped their two-game losing streak with a victory over the Pistons on Wednesday, the Celtics (39-36) are back in action. Their opponent is the Cavs (22-52), who are having a forgettable season despite...

Random Thoughts on Reports out of Practice

Photo courtesy of @ESPNForsberg There is some encouraging news out of practice today. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett participated in practice today with Doc saying that there were no restrictions on either one of them. But, of course, the news couldn't be all good, could it? Avery Bradley sat out practice with a sore collarbone that was injured when Kyrie Irving caught...

Comments from the Other Side - Pistons 4/3

It's always sad for me to see fans rooting for a loss in order to tank for a better draft choice.  I've never quite been able to get to the point where I want my team to lose, for any reason.   I can understand other fans not liking Tommy's Celtics homerism, but to wish harm on him is pretty classless.  The guy has 10 rings as both player and coach and has forgotten...

Brandon Bass May Be Biggest Beneficiary of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce’s Return to Celtics

BOSTON — Brandon Bass has seldom had a play called for him in the NBA, and that is OK with him. The soft-spoken power forward usually has very little to say about himself or his team, whether after wins or losses, 20-point performances or forgettable duds, playoff games or preseason contests. Bass’ play spoke for itself on Sunday — rather, it spoke for his teammates. By coming...

The Boston Celtics defeated the Washington Wizards 107 to 96 tonight at the TD Garden. Pierce and Garnett both returned to the lineup, which gave the entire team a nice boost. This win was a full team win, as 5 players scored in double figures and 3 more almost did. Flat-out the Wizards were no match for the Celtics talent. KG was sharp in his return to the court, but the leader...
