You can always count on Charles Barkley giving you an honest opinion. So when he was asked to give an assessment about LeBron James, Barkley didn’t hold back.

The Heat suffered a 111-106 overtime loss to the Warriors last night, despite holding a 17-point advantage in the second half. The game was Dwyane Wade’s first after sitting out the previous three because of a sore foot. He had a game-high 34 points.

Miami held an 84-72 lead heading into the fourth, but the Warriors outscored the Heat, 24-12, in the final quarter to force overtime. And while he finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, James didn’t attempt one field goal or record one assist in the fourth quarter.

This sounds awfully similar to LeBron’s performance during last year’s NBA Finals, which triggered profound negative criticism directed at the superstar to the tune of “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”

This prompted The Waddle & Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 in Chicago to ask Barkley on Wednesday about LeBron’s passiveness. Here’s how Chuck replied:

You saw when Dwyane was out, LeBron had monster games. He almost averaged a triple-double. I think LeBron James’ personality is — he just defers. He’s a really nice guy. I’ve said that before. LeBron James is just a really nice guy. He went from scoring 30 points a game last week when Dwyane was out to when Dwyane came back, he just stepped back a little bit. I tell people, LeBron James is a great, great player. But I think he’s just one of those nice guys. ‘Well Dwyane’s back, I’m going to defer to him.’ That’s all it could be. To not take a shot. My personal opinion is he just doesn’t have an aggressive personality.

So there you go, boys and girls. LeBron James isn’t choking down the stretch. He’s just being courteous!

“He’s just one of those nice guys”? Why does it feel like Charles Barkley just broke up with LeBron James.
