I posted this summer about Chris Wilcox's efforts to give back. This guy gives from the heart, not because it's required by the league. He personally loaded a truck with supplies to take to a food bank on Grand Strand this summer. He showed his consideration by calling ahead to see what they needed and by helping to unload the truck himself. He doesn't give lip service to caring, he really does. He also hosted a golf tournament for Lupus and is very active in trying to bring attention to that often misunderstood disease. The video above shows Chris visiting kids at the Children's Hospital. His visits will give these kids a memory that they can always look back on, but they also give these kids hope, something that isn't always in abundance when a child is facing serious physical problems. I mentioned in the title of this article that Chris Wilcox is a Celtic. You might think, duh, I know that. But I wasn't referring to the fact that he plays for the Celtics, rather that he has the character and heart of a Celtic. I read a lot of books on Celtics history and from the early days of Red Auerbach's tenure as Celtics GM, Coach, President and all around guru, he targeted players for their character as well as their playing ability. Red wanted players on his team that showed heart, that had the character to do the right things, and who would put team before personal stats and position. Chris Wilcox is that type of player. He is a Celtic. He embodies the character that Red often described when talking about his type of player. When we say the phrase, "once a Celtic, always a Celtic," we aren't talking about their uniform. We are talking about their character and who they are. A true Celtic will always be a Celtic because it's not the uniform, it's what they have inside. And, Chris Wilcox is a Celtic. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
