Earlier this morning, both Boston Celtics president of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich radio broadcast during a charity event at Wallaston Golf Club in Milton, Mass. He dished on myriad topics such as Rajon Rondo's potential return date, Avery Bradley's role on this current roster, and some of the most burning questions related to the team's training camp that begins next week.  But perhaps the most glaring issue is that of Rondo's uncertain return date for the 2013-14 campaign and Ainge, surprisingly, had a lot to say about his All-Star point guard today. "I've been in constant contact with him [Rondo]. So has [head coach Brad Stevens]," Ainge said at the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation's "Teeing Up for Kids' golf tournament this morning. "He seems to be in a really good place emotionally [and] mentally. Now we're just trying to get the physical part done, and he's got a ways to go." Ainge didn't exactly inspire confidence in Celtics fans when the words "he's got a ways to go" spilled from his mouth and, unfortunately, things got slightly worse. "Don't know [when Rondo will be back]. We've just seen examples of why we shouldn't give dates of expected returns. We'll just take it week by week and he'll continue to get evaluated, but he's working extremely hard and he wants to play."  Rondo's most recent prognosis, according to Ainge, isn't anything out of the ordinary so we shouldn't be shocked by his comments. However, the Celtics overall patience, as well as Rondo's, will only benefit the team in the long-term. "I don't think that we would ever succumb to the pressure of bringing back a player from an ACL too soon," said Ainge. "We have to do what's right for him. He's young, he's [early] in his career. Maybe if he was 37 and it was his last year, but he's just still so young, and he's our best player, and we can't afford to make any mistakes in judgement on when to bring him back." Even though he may not participate in basketball related activities anytime soon, the 7-year veteran will still travel with the team to Newport, Rhode Island next week, the site at which they'll open training camp next week. But despite his physical incapability, Rondo will be present at practice in order to both learn the new system Stevens will be implementing and continue his rehab. Ainge ultimately hinted that expecting Rondo to make his return in December is a much more realistic scenario. Celtics two-guard Avery Bradley was also a hot topic of discussion today due to the recent events that have taken place in the 22-year old's life. He welcomed his newborn son, Avery Bradley III, into the world this week and with that comes a massive amount of excitement. Unfortunately the good vibes don't seem to be as significant given the loss of his mother, 46, who passed away earlier this month, just two weeks before the birth of his son. Bradley also has contractual negotiations to worry about at the moment but that, appropriately, seems to be the last things on his current to-do list.  "I was in Tacoma last week for Avery's mother's funeral, and Avery seems to be doing better," said Ainge this morning. "And Avery just had a child [Tuesday] morning, Avery III, so AB3 we'll call him, I guess. And everybody's doing well from what I've heard."  Ainge then, finally, leaked out some information involving Bradley's contract situation. By league rule, the Celtics have until the 31st of October to extend him. If they fail to do so then Bradley will undoubtedly become a restricted free agent when the summer of 2014 is upon us. Boston would have the right to match any offer that Avery receives once he hits restricted free agency. "Sure, [we'd match an offer] but there's nothing imminent here. I think how Avery fits into [Brad Steven's] system... we may talk in October but most likely next summer."  Follow @TimMacLean_

When Should Rajon Rondo Return?

The NBA season is still more than a month away, and I can’t take my eyes off of my left knee. Specifically, the four inch scar that begins at the bottom of my kneecap and the two small hole-sized scars on either side.   It’s amazing what little remains of the two surgeries on my knee. Sure, it won’t ever be 100 percent healthy again, but I’m still amazed at how far we...

Celtics’ GM Danny Ainge: I’d be ‘Shocked’ if Rondo is Ready for Season Opener

I didn’t think Rondo would be ready by the season opener. And with the Celtics not exactly contenders this season, no reason to rush him back at all. Ainge said he'd be "shocked" if Rondo ready for season opener. Hesitates on timeline and said they will take it week by week and not rush. — […]

Avery Bradley is entering the last season before he becomes eligible for restricted free agency in 2014. Bradley and the Celtics will “most likely” wait until after the season to have substantive negotiations, Celtics...

Rajon Rondo Still Roots for Kevin Garnett, Reveals Surprising Favorite Color in Twitter Q&A

Rajon Rondo‘s favorite color is red. That might not seem so weird unless you consider that he went to Kentucky, where wearing red is akin to walking through fire in a gasoline suit. Louisville alum Terrence Williams even gave Rondo grief about it last season, when Rondo rocked a black and red outfit (the Cardinals’ colors) after a game. A man can’t change his favorite color...

Gerald Wallace yet to show himself as a Celtic

Back in July when the Boston Celtics formally introduced the players acquired from the Brooklyn Nets as part of this summer’s nine-player blockbuster swap small forward Gerald Wallace was absent excused from the press conference to attend the start of his youth basketball camp in his native Alabama. Seventy-three days later with training camp less than a week away the former...
