Finally, after 17 months, all the waiting, all the wondering, an entire season, all the memes, and all the jokes, Derrick Rose is 100% ready to return for the Chicago Bulls. Well, at least, he thinks he is. Derrick Rose has a kid. Did you know this? I didn’t. “I think I am a 100 percent, I’m doing almost everything,” Rose said in an interview with Comcast SportsNet Chicago. “I’m squatting, running, lifting almost every other day, just being back on the court after you have an ACL injury, you’re kind of hesitant at first about how you step, what way you should step, learning how to run, accelerate, accelerate while you run and while you’re slowing down. For me, I’m reacting right now where all I have to think about is if I have to get to a spot, I’m going to get there no matter what. It kind of feels good having that feeling again,” Rose said. It’s good to hear the last part of that quote. Throughout the latter part of this past season, after Rose was cleared by doctors to play, we kept hearing him talk about how he still wouldn’t play because he wanted to be able to dunk comfortably, because although the had been cleared, he still didn’t feel like himself. Whatever that feeling was that he felt was missing, it seems to finally, at long last, be back. But until he actually gets out onto an NBA court and, on opening night, has to sprint up and down the court with LeBron James and takes a few hits, he won’t be 100% NBA ready. He can have all the good feeling practice explosiveness, but we still aren’t sure what Rose will look like come opening night in South Beach.
