Derrick Rose sat down for a rapid fire 90-second interview with CNN’s Pedro Pinto.  As seen in the above video, Rose’s every response to the softball questions tossed his way were predictable. Q:  Career lowlight? A:  Tearing my ACL.  Q: Who’s your basketball idol? A:  Michael Jordan. Q: Greatest city in the world? A:  Chicago.  Q:  Best player in the league right now? A: Derrick Rose. Q:  Toughest guy to defend? A:  I’d have to say LeBron. Ok, you get the point.  Save for about 10-seconds of the interview, the majority of the footage could have been left on the cutting room floor.  But that 10-seconds of Rose bigging himself up? Yes, let’s talk about it. Rose anointing himself as the best player in the league, is pretty standard stuff, especially since he is a one-time MVP award winner.  It’s certainly not as egregious as this.  I’ll give him that.  However, it’s still pretty hard for me to get on board with this claim for obvious reasons.  Rose hasn’t played in an NBA game in over a year.  This is relevant. I know athletes know their bodies better than anyone else, but let’s be honest here, not only is D. Rose not the best player in the league, in 2013, it’s debatable as to whether he’s even the best player at the point guard position.  While he rehabbed, his competitors were out there cooking — Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry, and even old man Tony Parker, to name a few.  And this recent dunk on a rim that appears so low that I’ve convinced myself I could (maybe?) dunk on it if given the Nate Robinson treatment, doesn’t make me a believer either. Until Rose is back to running point for the Chicago Bulls in multiple meaningful games, getting D’d up by LeBron, and reminding us that ‘fast don’t lie,’ this is a laughable statement.  It’s as if D. Rose thinks time stood still for him while he was away from the game.  That, or it was too painful for him to watch games and he missed the show LeBron, the indisputable best player in the league, put on last season. But congrats Bulls fan, it looks like the mind games and mental fragility that had a chokehold on him the second half of the season has loosened its grip. -@itsshanarenee Props:  Bleacher Report
