Derrick Williams was the second overall pick in 2011 draft.  He dominated while playing for the University of Arizona.  However, since making the NBA, Williams has been more of a role player and is struggling to prove he belongs.  But he's dedicated to proving he's not a bust.According to NBA.com, Williams does not want to fall into a list of former number two picks who didn't work out.  He has battled through minor injuries, but the real problem has ben his inability to adjust to the NBA game.  In college, Williams was able to do whatever he wanted on the court.  In the NBA, he is trying to figure out his role.  Williams has a plan to get extra work in, though, to avoid becoming another sad member of flops from the number two draft slot."I don't want to say any names, but there have been a lot who haven't worked out," Williams said. "A couple have sky-rocketed and a couple have been pretty decent. My whole life I never wanted to be a decent player."Related: Timberwolves news and updates.Williams now has almost two seasons under his belt in the NBA.  In his career, he has averaged 9.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.  He is averaging fewer minutes per game in his second season than in his rookie year - never a good sign.  Williams has played 38 games this year and has only missed time due to coach's decisions.  He will have to step up if he's going to get more time on the court.Williams and his agent had previously asked for a trade, but that does not look like it's going to happen.  The only option for Williams at this point is to prove he belongs in the NBA and earn his playing time.
