Breaking news: the Celtics look old. Actually, they don’t just look old — they are old. Keep in mind that this is a team that no longer cares about proving itself in the regular season. For the past few years, Boston has coasted through the regular season and picked up the tempo come playoff time. A lot of veteran teams do the same thing. Still, it is tough to ignore their flaws. Boston is 4-5, has had trouble stopping good offenses, and has struggled to score against poor teams. Aside from Rajon Rondo, consistent play has been lacking. That is why both Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett realize the team now belongs to Rondo. “This is his team right now,” Rivers said Wednesday after the Celtics lost to the Mavericks, according to “Rondo’s just playing terrific. And we’ve got to allow him to be terrific. We shouldn’t get in his way.” “Rajon is amazing, period,” Garnett added. “You talk about big things are coming; big things are here. Rajon is keeping us alive every night. We

Rajon Rondo, Celtics teammates all left off Team USA preliminary roster

It probably should not come as a surprise that Rajon Rondo — who either got cut from or left the USA men’s basketball team that participated in the 2010 World Championships after receiving a DNP under weird circumstances — failed to make the preliminary roster for the team that will compete in the 2012 London Olympics. But Rondo and all his Celtics teammates were reportedly...

Rajon Rondo's Scoring Outburst Signals That Celtics Are Already 'His Team' Despite Loss

There was a time when Rajon Rondo scoring 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting while hitting eight of his 12 free throw attempts would have been the greatest thing in the world, or at least the greatest thing in that little corner of the world that houses North Station. Back then, about two or three years ago, 24 points for Rondo would have meant just another 20-point scorer for the guys...

Kevin Garnett Speaks About the Boston Celtics Struggles

(Courtesy of  Steven Cuce/Sports Radio Interview and WEEI) How disappointing was the loss to the Dallas Mavericks at home this week? “Any time you lose it is always disappointing. Nothing is good about losing. Obviously today we will watch the film and try to learn from it and apply that to Chicago and other games, [...]

Lurking Around Celtics Nation: the gauging struggles of KG

As Celtics fans know, Kevin Garnett has been oft discussed lately. Unfortunately, it’s not been a positive discussion and has divided Celtics Nation and left fans with the possibility of a very harsh reality– The Ticket may not be so big for the Celtics any more. CLNSRadio’s season-long post game coverage of every Celtics game [...]

Doc Rivers says the Celtics are Rajon Rondo’s ‘team right now’

Boston's Ray Allen is having an incredible year, shooting nearly 56 percent from the floor and an astonishing (even for him) 63 percent from long range. He's missed just four free throws in 31 tries, while averaging 19 points per game. Kevin Garnett is still dashing all over the place defensively, helping to hold together a Boston defense that is full of holes at this point...

Celtics can't recover from horrific start, fall to Chicago

The Celtics play like garbage in the first half, digging themselves a hole so deep that it's quickly filling up with liquid hot magma. Doc Rivers reads them the riot act and the team comes on like gangbusters in the third quarter, playing tremendous defense, moving the ball and not settling for isolations. They get this close to breaking through and taking the lead before...

Doc Rivers: C's need to improve toughness

WALTHAM - The Celtics don't have a bevy of beasts. They don't possess the kind of size that makes opponents call...

Recap: C's comeback falls short

Pardon the super quick recap tonight, but aside from the third quarter, there wasn't a whole lot to talk about.  The Celtics came out of the box frigid, missing some makeable shots but also looking old and slow.   They found the fountain of youth in the third quarter, hitting on 11 of 19 shots and outscoring the Bulls by 11.  Mickael Pietrus' 3 with about 10 minutes...

Celtics Live Blog: Rajon Rondo Takes On Derrick Rose, Bulls in Battle of Elite Point Guards

7:45 p.m.: This is not the game to expect the Celtics to finally break out of their rebounding funk. The Celtics, who allowed 17 second-chance points to the Mavericks on Wednesday and are second-to-last in the NBA in overall rebounding, take on the best team in the league at keeping opponents off the glass. That's right. Bulls opponents average just 37.8 rebounds per game, the...

Taking Stock: C's - Bulls

After every game, we'll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player's overall value. Starters Paul Pierce: Until he gets himself into game shape, his value will continue to drop.  I'm not giving up on him now, but I AM saying that the short term prognosis is negative.  I'm optimistic about him turning it around in the long term, but I...

Mavericks 90, Celtics 85

Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 points, driving past Kevin Garnett for the go-ahead layup with 5.1 seconds left and leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 90-85 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. Dallas led most of the game, but Paul Pierce hit a 3-pointer - just his second basket of the night - to tie it at 85 with 25 seconds to play. Former Celtic Delonte West dribbled the...

Celtics drop nailbiter to Mavericks, 90-85

It was a frustrating night at the TD Garden tonight as the Celtics drop their second straight game, this time to the defending champion Dallas Mavericks, 90-85. In a game where Paul Pierce struggled and only took 5 shots and Ray Allen was only 3 of 8 from the field, Rajon Rondo tried mightily to [...]

Comeback falls short (Again), as Celtics lose 88-79

Getty Images The Celtics fell behind early again only to give the fans false hope as they lose to Chicago 88-79. What was once a 20 point deficit was erased to one point. Boston failed to pull off a comeback win for the second straight game after showing no signs of life in the first half. This game started with drama prior to tip off. Everyone was in anticipation on the status...
