Ryan Kantor After Wednesday’s performance in a 25-point comeback against the Hornets, nobody deserves credit more than Kobe Bryant. It’s just surprising that the coach of the rival Boston Celtics was the one to dish it out. From LakerHolicz.com, Doc Rivers said that Kobe doesn’t always get the credit he deserves because his greatness was preceded Michael Jordan. “I think because he followed Michael, he probably doesn’t get the due he deserves,” said Rivers. “What he’s doing right now, at his age, I watched last night because I watch most of New Orleans’ games for personal reasons, he’s playing at a different level himself.”   Credit: LakerHolicz.com It’s hard to disagree. Kobe was compared to Michael Jordan to the point of ridiculousness for the first half of his career. Thankfully it has mostly subsided, but may make it easy to overlook the fact that he is one of five greatest shooting guards of all-time. Ryan Kantor is a contributor to Sports-Kings.com. Doc Rivers’ Dilemma

With a little more than 20 games remaining, the NBA is officially in the midst of its stretch run. This is the time teams sink or swim. When the jockeying for playoff position begins heating up. Where the pretenders are separated from the contenders. But most importantly, this is the time teams start taking a good long look at the cards in their hand and either check or fold. Do...

Why less is more for Doc Rivers

It's hard to fathom Doc Rivers coaching for any other franchise than the Boston Celtics. His first stint in Orlando (1999-2003), taught him a lot about coaching young superstars and showed he wasn't ready.  Doc had Tracy McGrady and the oft injured Grant Hill at his disposal. Hill and McGrady barely played together, yet his 2002-03 Orlando Magic team had the favored Detroit...

Celtics making up new lockdown defense as they go along?

The Celtics were able to pull off last night's surprising 83-81 victory at Indiana by closing the game on an 11-0 run over the last 4:35.  In a piece by ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg, Doc Rivers gave a lot of the credit to the unusual zone defense Boston was playing.  Here's what Doc had to say: “We were laughing because, I think someone called it a manwich, a man...

Video: Jeff Green's game winning play

Finally, Doc Rivers listens to the fans and calls a play at the end of the game that isn't just a Paul Pierce iso. And it was awesome. Best win of the year? Best play of the year? Yes on both accounts. Via Reddit Video by HardwoodParoxysm09

Doc Rivers shows his genius as Celtics score last 11 in Indianapolis to shock Pacers

Doc Rivers and the Celtics stunned Indiana in epic fashion Wednesday night The Celtics did something they hadn’t done all season Wednesday night, winning road games on back to back nights; and they did it in epic fashion. Impressive for such an old, banged up team? Of course. Unexpected? Maybe  so, especially since the Celtics had one win this season after being down by more than...

Hornets guard Rivers hurts hand against Lakers

Hornets rookie guard Austin Rivers has injured his right hand during Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers and team officials say he is unable to return for the second half. Rivers, the 10th-overall pick in last June's NBA draft, had 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting in the first half, helping the Hornets building lead that grew as large as 25 points in the second...

Your Morning Dump… Where Doc Rivers has a lot of faith in Jeff Green

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I had drawn up another play and Armond Hill walked over and — he rarely does it — he said, ‘Hey, listen, the play you drew up from the first half worked, let’s run it again,’” explained Rivers. ...

Hornets' Austin Rivers may miss the rest of the season with broken hand

The New Orleans Hornets received some bad news yesterday.  Austin Rivers, their young shooting guard, could miss the rest of the season.  The initial projection is 4-6 weeks, but that recovery time takes Rivers so close to the end of the season that it's very possible he doesn't come back.Rivers broke his hand Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers.  Rivers was seeing...

Doc rips team over shot selection

The Boston Celtics took care of business on the defensive end Sunday in a 91-79 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but weren't successful on the offensive end. The Celtics held the Thunder to 44.1 percent shooting and didn't let

Doc Rivers Believes Jordan Crawford, Terrence Williams, Other Newcomers Need to Start Learning ‘Celtics Way’

WALTHAM, Mass. — As the unofficial second half of the season heats up, the Celtics have dispensed with any talk of how they will proceed after losing Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger and former member Leandro Barbosa to season-ending injuries. Subsequently, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge decided against subtracting major players and instead made more modest...

The scenario was no different Friday night back in Boston where they went into an overtime thriller with the Atlanta Hawks before coming away with the 107-102 win! Turn On The Knicks Throwback Thursday – March 7th Edition

Twelve years ago today the Phoenix Suns retired Kevin Johnson’s number seven, and deservedly so. He was a lock to be amongst the league leaders in assists during his prime, currently ranking 18th all-time, and was way ahead of other point guards of his era in terms of athleticism. Johnson is now the Mayor of Sacramento and is working furiously to find a way to keep the Kings from...

Green’s Game Winner Completes A Miracolous Comeback By The Celtics

It was the biggest play of the season. With 23 seconds to play in a tie game, Doc Rivers devised a brilliant play using Paul Pierce as a decoy/screen-setter to get Jeff Green wide open in the paint for the game winning layup. It was the biggest win of the season. On the second night of a back-to-back, on the road against a Pacers (38-23) team with the second-best record in the East...
