PLAYERS: Doc Rivers
TEAMS: Boston Celtics
The (basketball ignorant) duo of Dennis & Callahan interviewed Doc Rivers this morning on WEEI. Here's what Doc had to say about the compact schedule, the bench and minutes: "Listen, the last four years we started out great," said Rivers. "I think if they had stopped the season after 30 games we'd have won four championships in a row. Unfortunately, we don't, and so the first thought for us going into the season is that we have to finish the season. Obviously, what's happened is injuries. We get into a season and injuries happen and we can't finish the year. Last year was a great example of that, we just didn't finish the year. So with 66 games, the only thought going in is that you are going to need more guys to play, you're going to have to deeper into your rotation and then every single coach is going to have to be a master manager of rest and time." Managing minutes has never been Doc's strength. He preaches incessantly...

2011-12 Season Preview: Boston Celtics

Last season: 56-26 and a tough out by the hand of LeBron James. Head Coach: The perennially fantastic Doc Rivers. He may not have the mystique of Gregg Popovich or the cult appeal of Stan Van Gundy, but Rivers consistently does a great job of balancing the personalities on Boston’s roster while drawing up highly…

The Avery Bradley point guard experiment is being scrapped, at least for now

When the Boston Celtics drafted Avery Bradley, it was with the intent to turn him into a point guard, one who could either spell Rajon Rondo or slide over to shooting guard on occasion to form a small backcourt that would pose all kinds of ballhandling issues for other teams. However, after a year in which Bradley failed to make progress as a lead guard, Doc Rivers has scrapped...
