As the Boston Celtics begin their playoff run without their star point guard Rajon Rondo, Doc Rivers is looking for ways to shuffle the roster in a way that might be able to minimize Rondo’s absence. As the team has learned, it’s difficult to ever replace a player like Rondo. In their loss to the New York Knicks, Rondo was on the bench to support his teammates. When asked what it was like to have him on the bench, Doc Rivers had a bit of a funny response, and sort of a backhanded compliment. Doc happy to have Rondo along for start of playoffs. Can he help? Rivers: “I always tell if he wasn’t so crazy, he’d be a great coach.” — Chris Forsberg (@ESPNForsberg) April 20, 2013 I mean, I guess this is mostly a compliment, right? Rondo has a high level basketball knowledge, which is part of what makes him such a good point guard. Of course, his attitude isn’t typically what you would expect out of a coach. Doc Rivers probably sees a bit of himself in Rondo, a tough-minded, intense point guard. Rondo’s game has improved drastically under Rivers, and the team knows how valuable he really is. -Mark Evans, Assistant Manager/Editor of Content Follow us on Twitter The post Doc Rivers: Rondo Would Be A Great Coach If He Wasn’t Crazy appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.

Celtics need to pick up the pace in Game 2

How can the Celtics eliminate some of their sloppy turnovers in half-court sets? By staying out of half-court sets: “Some of those easy opportunities have to come in transition,” said Pierce. “Kicking the ball ahead to myself, Jeff [Green] is something we want to emphasize. We feel like if we can get the ball up and advance passes before the defense, it says it gives us an...

Doc Rivers, Tom Thibodeau Lament Grumpy Atmosphere at Team Hotel That Celtics, Bulls Are Sharing in New York

NEW YORK — One New York hotel, two unhappy basketball teams. The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls are staying at the same location this weekend. Both lost their playoff openers Saturday, the Celtics falling 85-78 to the New York Knicks and the Bulls getting routed 106-89 by the Nets in Brooklyn. “This was a quiet, dark hotel last night. The New York-area teams didn’t treat...

Keep following plan B

The Celtics lost the game yesterday to the Knicks. New York was glad to accept the gift from us. It won´t happen again. For three full of thrill quarters the Celtics frustrated any single attempt from the isolation plays by Carmelo Anthony to overpower us. It didn´t matter how offensively talented the hosts were, we always fought back and punched them in the guts right away....

Misery loves company: Celtics, Bulls in same hotel

Doc still making excuses for Terry’s poor play

Jason Terry dropped a giant goose egg (0 points, 0-5 FG) in Saturday’s loss to NY. As usual, Doc Rivers took the blame: Even after 35-year-old Terry went scoreless on Saturday — the first time he’s been held without points in a playoff appearance — Rivers offered a vote of confidence for the veteran guard. “We didn’t do a good job with [getting Terry going] last night...

Doc Rivers: ‘New York teams didn’t treat the guests very well’

The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls are sharing the same hotel in New York this week, which may not be a good thing for either team following both teams Game 1 losses on Saturday. The Celtics lost to the New York Knicks 85-78, while the Bulls lost to the Brooklyn Nets

Turnovers cost Celtics chance to win Game 1

Rajon Rondo was unable to join his team Friday as planned, stuck in Boston while the city was in lockdown. He arrived in New York on Saturday, even offering his teammates some tips from the scouting report. Unfortunately for the Celtics, he still can't play. The Celtics badly missed their injured point guard Saturday, costing themselves a chance to win their playoff opener...

Turnovers the Difference in Celtics' Game 1 Loss

Celtics' 21 turnovers prove too much to overcome There are plenty of reasons the Celtics fell short Saturday afternoon in their playoff opener against the Knicks. That the Celtics scored just eight fourth quarter points would be a reasonable place to start, especially when you consider that Boston led by three heading into the fourth. Then there are Jason Terry’s zero points...

Celtics Bench Non-Existent In Game 1 Loss To Knicks

There’s got to be a reason … seriously. Why would Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers only utilize three guards in Game 1 of the opening round of the NBA Playoffs against the New York Knicks? Whatever the reason, the Celtics are now in a 0-1 hole after dropping an 85-78 decision Saturday afternoon. Big man Shavlik Randolph averaged north of 30 points per-game in the Chinese Basketball...

Your Morning Dump… Will the Celtics be focused on the Knicks?

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “The (bleep) is crazy,” Garnett said. “Everybody is trying to at least focus in on, obviously our game, the playoffs. But the obvious, everybody’s worried also.” Said Jason Terry: “We’re still thinking...
