Doc Rivers no longer has a horse in the race, now that his son Austin Rivers is plying his trade in the NBA. The Celtics coach and college basketball fan does have a rooting interest in the NCAA Tournament, though. Rivers admitted that he is enjoying Florida Gulf Coast’s run to the Sweet 16, and that he has a personal connection with the Eagles. FGCU’s primary alley-oop thrower, guard Brett Comer, is a childhood and high school teammate of Austin’s. According to Rivers, Comer has not changed. “I used to get mad at both he and Austin,” Rivers told CBSSports’ Jeff Goodman. “Those guys would be up 30 and would still be throwing lobs to each other. I’d yell at them, but they’d never listen to me.” Rivers also gave credit to Eagles coach Andy Enfield for giving his players the freedom to play their entertaining style. Then again, Enfield should feel comfortable, since things have a way of working out for him.
