Jason Terry dropped a giant goose egg (0 points, 0-5 FG) in Saturday’s loss to NY. As usual, Doc Rivers took the blame: Even after 35-year-old Terry went scoreless on Saturday — the first time he’s been held without points in a playoff appearance — Rivers offered a vote of confidence for the veteran guard. “We didn’t do a good job with [getting Terry going] last night,” Rivers said. “Especially in the second half, there were so many [isolations] that Jason has nothing to do with. In the first half, Jason didn’t score, but we ran that play with the pick-and-roll with him and Paul. We scored five times in a row because of Jason Terry’s involvement, so I don’t actually look at if he scored. I look at the points he created, and in the first half he created 12 points. In the second half, it was all isos. I mean, it’s not us. We’re not built that way.” Points created is a great stat, Doc. But in addition to that, this team needs Jason Terry to make jumpers. Turnovers the Difference in Celtics' Game 1 Loss

Celtics' 21 turnovers prove too much to overcome There are plenty of reasons the Celtics fell short Saturday afternoon in their playoff opener against the Knicks. That the Celtics scored just eight fourth quarter points would be a reasonable place to start, especially when you consider that Boston led by three heading into the fourth. Then there are Jason Terry’s zero points...

Your Morning Dump… Will the Celtics be focused on the Knicks?

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “The (bleep) is crazy,” Garnett said. “Everybody is trying to at least focus in on, obviously our game, the playoffs. But the obvious, everybody’s worried also.” Said Jason Terry: “We’re still thinking...

Video: Doc talks after Monday's practice

Here's Doc Rivers media interview from Monday's practice courtesy of the Boston Celtics. The Celtics aim to even up the series vs the Knicks tomorrow night.

Celtics Seeking Revenge in Game 2

After the sloppy play featured in the second half of the series opener, Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics will look to redeem themselves in Game 2 this evening at MSG. Turnovers plagued the Celtics late in Game 1 but the atrocious efforts put forth by the bench are what ultimately did them in. While Carmelo Anthony led the way with 36 points, it was the New York Knicks bench that...

Cs Sputter in Second Half, Knicks Take Game 1

The Celtics fell to the New York Knicks today, 85-78, in the opening game of their first round series. Things went pretty well for Boston in the first half and they held a 53-49 lead heading into intermission, but both the third and fourth quarters proved to be a disaster. Despite owning a slim 3 point advantage going into the final frame, the Cs were outscored 36-26 in the second...

Reasons for optimism

The Celtics managed only 8 points in the 4th quarter last night, and just 25 total in the second half. For the game Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce combined to shoot 10-27 from the field, 37%. The bench scored just 4 points without making a field goal (0-7), including 0-4 3PT from Jason Terry. Boston's reserves also failed to register a single assist. The Celtics turned the ball...

Doc Rivers, Tom Thibodeau Lament Grumpy Atmosphere at Team Hotel That Celtics, Bulls Are Sharing in New York

NEW YORK — One New York hotel, two unhappy basketball teams. The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls are staying at the same location this weekend. Both lost their playoff openers Saturday, the Celtics falling 85-78 to the New York Knicks and the Bulls getting routed 106-89 by the Nets in Brooklyn. “This was a quiet, dark hotel last night. The New York-area teams didn’t treat...

Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics Share a Hotel

What a weird coincidence, two losing teams sharing a hotel. Boston.com reported that the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics shared the same hotel last weekend after they both got beat in their game 1's of their series. ‘‘This was a quiet, dark hotel last night. The New York-area teams didn’t treat the guests very well,’’ Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Sunday. Doc...

Celtics Bench Non-Existent In Game 1 Loss To Knicks

There’s got to be a reason … seriously. Why would Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers only utilize three guards in Game 1 of the opening round of the NBA Playoffs against the New York Knicks? Whatever the reason, the Celtics are now in a 0-1 hole after dropping an 85-78 decision Saturday afternoon. Big man Shavlik Randolph averaged north of 30 points per-game in the Chinese Basketball...

Your Morning Dump… Where Jordan Crawford could get more minutes tonight

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I thought he was good,” Rivers said. “He stayed in his lane, let’s put it that way. He didn’t go outside of it. Usually guys in their first [playoff] game, they do one or the other. Some guys don’t...

Rondo Playing De Facto Coach Role With Celtics

Doc Rivers has always spoken highly of Rajon Rondo's basketball intelligence.

Rajon Rondo trying to help teammates in his new role as assistant coach

Anyone who watched Game 1 of the Celtics/Knicks series noticed the Celtics coaching staff was larger than normal. Of course it was still led by Doc Rivers and his patented "smile at the refs with your arms up in the air following a terrible call on whoever was guarding Carmelo Anthony at the time" move. And then there were the normal assistants, simultaneously coaching...

JZ's Keys to Game 2

After blowing a winnable series opener to The Knicks, Boston desperately needs to steal home court advantage in Game 2. If The Celtics doesn't pull off a win tonight, they'll need to win 4 of the next 5 games in the series, meaning they will have almost no margin for error. Seeing as Doc Rivers' ballclub has very little depth and has been turning it over at an inordinate...
