Dwight Howard can barely keep himself on the court this season for the Los Angeles Lakers, but he's already eyeing a possible Olympic roster spot for 2016.  Howard has been battling a torn labrum in his shoulder, and he has been trying to get his back right all season after surgery last summer. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles, Howard was asked about the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.  He said there was "no doubt" he wanted to play.  Howard missed the 2012 Summer Olympics because of his back. The Olympics are still a long ways off, and there is no guarantee Howard will be healthy, but at least whoever coaches the Olympic team knows they have a volunteer at center.  Right now, though, the Olympics don't matter.  The Lakers are one game under .500 and quickly running out of time to get into the playoffs.Howard has had a rough year in the media and on the court.  His often lackadaisical attitude draws heat from fans and media and Kobe Bryant, but he has also been far less productive this season.  Obviously, the injuries have contributed to these production issues.  Howard is averaging 16.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game this season. Dwight Howard hopes to play for U.S. in Rio

The 2016 Olympics in Rio are a long way off, but that has not stopped plenty of intrigue from developing around who will be on the Olympic roster. Team USA will be going through a transition with Mike Krzyzewski stepping away and a new coach coming in. Continuity was one of the key things Jerry Colangelo wanted to build into the program after the embarrassment of the 2004 team...

Ricky Rubio Takes Kobe and Dwight Howard to School

There had to be a reason that the Minnesota Timberwolves were willing to wait so long for this young man to be done playing ball overseas (pesky contracts). Rubio made getting past the Black Mamba look like child's play, and as for Dwight Howard--the words 'too' and 'easy' come to mind. Of course in the broad scheme of things it was only one basket;...

Lakers: Postseason chase will be 'fun'

While the season has not gone as planned, both Steve Nash and Dwight Howard -- and even Kobe, in a way -- said that the run for a postseason berth could be fun.

Kobe Bryant, Lakers Winninger More Games Without Actually Playing Any Better

One day, it is Dwight Howard‘s shoulder. The next day, it is Kobe Bryant‘s excessive shooting, or his excessive passing. The day after that, it is the Lakers’ shaky transition defense. Game after game, the great mystery that is this Lakers team receives a new explanation. When they win, it is evidence that they should be better. When they lose, it is proof that they are as...

Wisconsin's Ryan Evans is Now Shooting Jump Shot Free Throws (Video)

Wisconsin's Ryan Evans is the starting forward, and he's having some free throw problems.  The past two seasons he's shot over 70% from the charity stripe, but has dropped to 41% this season. Pathetic to say the least. Unable to emerge from a season-long slump at the free throw line, Evans has moved to the jump shot free throw.  I can honestly say that I've never...

Howard/Bynum Trade Showing True Colors

It’s the last day of February, post trade deadline, and with roughly 25 games remaining in the regular season it has become plain to see that neither the LA Lakers or the Philadelphia 76ers have benefitted from what was, by far, the biggest trade of the year. Who would’ve thought that at this point the Lakers would be two games below .500 and 2.5 games back of the eighth playoff...

Al Harrington Makes Season Debut After Hearing He Might Not Play Again

Acquired by the Orlando Magic as part of the Dwight Howard trade, forward Al Harrington has yet to play for his new team after developing a staph infection from arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Metta World Peace Defends His Play, Says He’s ‘Playing Hard,’ Not Dirty

Metta World Peace is no stranger to flagrant fouls, but he wants to make it clear that the one he received on Feb. 25 — and all others he’s received in the past — is just an example of the Lakers forward being aggressive, not dirty. That line may be blurred, but MWP crosses it pretty often as shown by his track record. His latest defense of his own play comes after he elbowed...

Hawks-Lakers Preview

Another victory won't move the Los Angeles Lakers back into the Western Conference playoff picture, but it will lift them to .500. The Lakers will try to get to the break-even point for the first time in more than two months on Sunday night when they go for a seventh straight home victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Acquiring Dwight Howard and two-time MVP Steve Nash in the offseason...

Preview: Timberwolves vs. Lakers

“The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow." — Thomas Paine The loss in Denver seem to have changed the attitude of the Lakers (28-30) over the course of...
