I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Minnesota. The debate before Friday night's game at Target Center was whether Kevin Garnett in his prime or Kevin Love as a 23-year-old stats monster was the best player in Timberwolves history. Garnett still has enough pals to be aware that this conversation was taking place in the Twin Cities dailies and on sports talk radio. Anyone raising this issue did no favors to Love. Tom Hanneman, the Wolves' TV play-by-play announcer, said he was told by his Boston peers that they had not seen Garnett so fired up before a game in a couple of years. That's not a surprise to anyone who watched Garnett in his 12 seasons in Minnesota. If we learned anything, it was that any hint of disrespect turned KG from merely a fierce competitor to an uncaged lion. And during the 34 minutes of hell that Gar...

KG has no love for the Wolves

Even without a title, Kevin Garnett had his best years in Minnesota, but when asked about the past, he couldn't find anything nice to say about his former squad.

When Kevins collide: KG gets the better of Love

MINNEAPOLIS It's the most confusing of coincidences, a franchise defined by two players who share little more than a first name. That name, Kevin, has forced two men together when little else besides Minnesota links them. It joins the hope of the present with the standard set by the fading past, and with each passing season, fewer Kevin Garnett jerseys dot the stands of the...

Kevin Garnett Steadily Wins Battle With Kevin Love in Celtics' Victory Over Timberwolves

In these mano a mano battles between the aging, all-time great and the budding star, there is often a moment that illustrates the whole story. Either the grizzled vet makes some savvy move to prove he's not finished yet, or the young buck leaves the legend in his wake in a resounding declaration that the future has arrived. There was really no moment like that on Friday, though...

Recap: KG sticks it to Wolves, one more time

The Celtics started strong and finished even stronger in tonight's 100-79 victory over the Wolves. Kevin Garnett was phenomenal: 24 points, 12-18 FG, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block. He dropped 10 points in the 4th quarter. The Wolves tried to make a run midway thru the 4th, but Garnett slammed the door. After re-entering the game (Stiemsma fouled out) at the 5:26 mark,...

Ice is back with a not-so-new invention

MINNEAPOLIS It looked a lot like the 1990s on Friday night at the Target Center. With Kevin Garnett on the court and Vanilla Ice performing at halftime, it hardly seemed like 2012, and the anachronism was nothing if not entertaining. It was enough for Minnesota Timberwolves guard Martell Webster to yell, Ice, ice baby, in the locker room before the game, dancing and moving with...

Doc Rivers Could Have Sensitive Issue on His Hands If He Elects to Rest Celtics Veterans Down the Stretch

BOSTON -- One of these days, Kevin Garnett may have to sit out a game. Garnett won't like it -- he has played in 47 out of a possible 50 games this season, after all, and has appeared in more than 90 percent of his team's games in 12 separate seasons -- but eventually Celtics coach Doc Rivers is going to have to break the bad news to his veteran non-center. If it becomes...

Battle of the Kevin’s: Boston Celtics vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and the Boston Celtics are in Minnesota tonight to take on MVP candidate Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Celtics enter the game tied for the Atlantic Division lead with a record of 28-22 after beating the Utah Jazz 94-82 on Wednesday night at TD Garden.  On the other [...]

Celtics Live Blog: Kevin Garnett, C's Open Grueling Stretch of Schedule By Hosting Miami Heat

8 a.m.: LeBron James and the Miami Heat visit the TD Garden on Sunday in what could be a first-round playoff preview. The Heat (37-13) hold the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and as recently as three days ago were slated to meet the Celtics (29-22) in the opening round. The Celtics' move into the Atlantic Division lead changed that, and their success down the stretch will...

Vanilla Ice performed during halftime of last night’s Minnesota Timberwolves game

Vanilla Ice was the halftime entertainment for the Timberwolves-Celtics game last night in Minnesota. Ice’s, or Vanilla’s, performance include him wearing a Kevin Love jersey, backup dancers, and a smoke machine. All this to set the ambiance while he delighted the Minnesota crowd with his catalog of hits like “Ice, Ice, Baby”, “Ice, Ice, Baby”, and “Ice, Ice, Baby...

Celtics 100, Timberwolves 79: Four in a row

The Celtics seized sole possession of the Atlantic Division lead for the first time all season, Rajon Rondo dominated an NBA game while shooting three for 11 and scoring six points, Avery Bradley continues to masquerade as a perfectly solid starting shooting guard, Kevin Garnett and crew made Kevin Love slightly uncomfortable all night long, and the aging process (except for you...

Comments from the other side - Wolves 3/30

That was fun.  I love it when KG gets so fired up.  He's so much fun to watch.  Wolves fans have mixed feelings about the Big Ticket: fond memories, feelings of betrayal, love, hate, admiration.  You name it and there is a fan feeling it.  I think the comment that cracked me up the most was "Hey look it's that guy we traded for Al Jefferson".  Of all the hate...

Heat-Celtics Preview

The Big Three continue to lead the way for the Miami Heat, who seem unlikely to relinquish control of the Southeast Division lead down the stretch. While Ray Allen has missed the last five games, the Boston Celtics have climbed to the top of the Atlantic behind tremendous efforts from Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Looking to continue their recent success in this series, the Heat...
