Nothing is forever. With every victory and every defeat, we must learn to enjoy and savor every moment. It will not last forever. I have prepared myself for years for the day Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were no longer Boston Celtics. It took me so long to realize that nothing is forever and that goes for all the sports that I love. With that, I don’t feel any sadness on this day. When the trade was finally announced I didn’t cry, I only smiled. I smile because Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have given me so much to be happy about throughout my life. Both players poured their hearts out for their team, showing us what it really means to be a champion. After the Boston Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett in July 2007, I knew the Celtics would win a championship. I just knew the stars had been aligned when Kevin, Paul, and Ray Allen were all brought together. It was perfection. I didn’t know how many championships they would win or when they would win for the first time, but I was certain it was going to happen. Even though the Celtics only won one championship in 2008, I have taken pleasure in seeing Paul and Kevin play each and every night whether its from my home, my seat in the TD Garden, or in my college dorm room. Whether it was meaningless regular season games or a defeat in the playoffs, I always got loud for KG and Paul. Pierce is the reason why I fell in love with basketball. His jersey hangs in my room along with many framed pictures. It’s hard for me to come up with a single favorite memory since there are so many to choose from. Every moment spent watching him was perfect. As a whole, Pierce managed to show loyalty in a league where loyalty is in short supply. He had so many opportunities to leave. He was a raw shooter coming out of Kansas and turned into the second leading scorer in Celtics history. Growing up, he was labeled as the immature thug-like figure and he turned into one of the greatest role models any kid could have. Kevin Garnett is everything that any leader can be. He plays with passion unlike any other and has earned every dollar he’s ever received. While people outside of Boston dislike him, let me just say if you had him on your team, you would be rooting for KG. Thank you Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Boston will always love you. Good luck in Brooklyn. Boston will be back in the finals, one day. -Kovner
