For the third time in just 16 days, the Boston Celtics are facing a season ending injury to an important rotation player. First it was All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo, lost with a torn ACL in a loss against the Hawks. Next it was rookie starter Jared Sullinger, who's sore back led to surgery to correct an injured disc. Now it appears that reserve guard Leandro Barbosa will join his two teammates on the shelf after his knee buckled following a 3rd quarter drive to the basket in last night's loss to the Bobcats.
While Barbosa may not be an All-Star like Rondo, or even a starter, like Sullinger, the team had begun to rely on his ability to score points as soon as he stepped off the bench. Despite averaging just 12.5 minutes per game this season, the 'Brazilian Blur' had chipped in with 5.2 points per game. And since Rondo's injury, his role had grown, as Barbosa was scoring 8.0 points per game over 21 minutes of action.
While it was a huge blow when Rondo went ...
BEST OF MAXIM
Our Boston Celtics have not lost a game since the double OT loss in Atlanta on January 25th. It was the last game Rajon Rondo has played this season, and likely the last NBA game he will play until some point in the 2013-2014 NBA season. Seven straight wins. No Rajon Rondo (or Jared Sullinger). How has this been possible without our best player, and one of the best and most unique...
The Boston Celtics have two guards with torn ACLs. They received updates on both. Fortunately, the news on Rajon Rondo's knee is positive. However, Leandro Barbosa who tore his ACL just a couple days ago, did not get quite as encouraging news.According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Rondo's knee surgery went well.Danny Ainge tells Globe Rondo underwent ACL...
J.J. Redick scored 22 points, Nikola Vucevic added 17 points and 19 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 110-104 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.
The Magic shot 50 percent from the field in earning their first win since Jan. 16. They play their next two games at home. Reserve Gustavo Ayon had 16 points and 11 rebounds for...
The Celtics host the Bulls tonight at the Garden (7:30 tip), in the 4th and final meeting between the clubs this season. So far this year the Bulls have won 2 of the 3 match-ups, including the only game in Boston. Here's what rounds 1-3 have looked like.
Nov. 12th: Celtics 101, Bulls 95 - Celtics win in Chicago behind Rajon Rondo's near triple-double (20 points, 10 assists...
Josh Smith has again been linked to Boston by a respected NBA reporter.
I keep hearing Josh Smith's primary destination is Boston.— Gery Woelfel (@GeryWoelfel) February 14, 2013
"Primary destination" can mean trade destination or as a free agent.
It's been well documented the immensely talented, immensely frustrating Smith is a good friend of Rajon Rondo....
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- J.J. Redick scored 22 points, Nikola Vucevic added 17 points and 19 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 110-104 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.

Things appeared pretty grim for the Boston Celtics just a few weeks ago.
Rajon Rondo went down with a torn knee ligament, and the team's playoff hopes took a major hit.
Well, the Celtics haven't lost in the seven games since and their latest victory proved they're going to be tough to beat - even without their star point guard. Paul Pierce had 27 points, 14 rebounds...
Paul Pierce and the Celtics have had a chance to show their toughness with Rondo out
The Boston Celtics won their seventh straight game Sunday, this one a triple overtime epic against the Denver Nuggets. It was another bar fight for a Celtics team that has become accustomed to them over the past two seasons. Even in the wake of that game, the major national story remains the same...
Boy, the Boston Celtics just can’t catch a break this year.
They win six games in a row… only to lose their next six. They lose Rajon Rondo for the rest of the season… only to lose Jared Sullinger two games later. They run off a surprising seven-game win streak, beating the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets… only to have it snapped by the cellar-dwelling...

One of the bigger questions for the Magic entering the season was how would the team defend?
Offense was predictably going to be a problem without a player who could create his own shot consistently unless someone really stepped up. Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo, Glen Davis and J.J. Redick have each taken turns carrying the offensive load. But there have been plenty of games where...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Welp, I really didn’t want to start this day off with doom and gloom for C’s fans, but obviously, the Barbosa injury is the big story, and only real “news”. He’ll undergo an MRI this morning in Boston...
