Gani Lawal has signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on a multi-year contract worth partial salary guarantees, league sources told RealGM.
A physical, athletic forward at 6-foot-9, Lawal had a breakout professional season with Virtus Roma and received substantial interest from NBA teams entering the offseason. Ultimately, Lawal signed with a Latvian team but was pried out of the deal with the 76ers showing an increasing interest, and the 24-year-old's representatives negotiated a release in Lithuania this week.
Lawal, cleared by the FIBA administration on Thursday, averaged 13.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and nearly two blocks a season ago with Virtus Roma.
Out of Georgia Tech University, Lawal went in the second round of the 2010 NBA draft as the Phoenix Suns' pick, and he was part of the San Antonio Spurs' training camp in 2011.
The 76ers retooled their roster and organization in the offseason and the acquisition of Lawal goes in line with their priority of player development.

Since squandering a shot at capturing title No. 5, the San Antonio Spurs have collectively been kicking themselves over the summer.
From Gregg Popovich, Tony Parker to Manu Ginobili, the loss to the Heat has been weighing on the team's collective mind but with the new season inching closer, it will be time to put the disappointment behind.
And leave it to Popovich to...

I’m going to try and give Royce White some breathing room on this one. According to CBS3 in Philadelphia, White did not travel to Spain for the Sixers preseason game on Sunday against Bilbao. The Sixers will also travel travel to Manchester, England for a preseason game on Tuesday against the Thunder. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer also confirmed for me that White was...
SAN ANTONIO - By now everyone knows the story of San Antonio Spurs' Danny Green’s ascent from virtual nobody, to record holder for most 3-pointers made in an NBA Finals series. And even though most players would be satisfied with their role on a championship caliber team, and newly acquired NBA Finals record, Green is the opposite.
Job security in the NBA is extremely...
San Antonio Spurs training camp invitee Dan Nwaelele is the underdog to make the final roster. However, when it comes to what defines being a Spurs, he has all that and more.
Dan, who had to serve a 5-year Army commitment, is getting a shot at the NBA with the Spurs and aside from being a great shooter, he is the right attitude and focus to hopefully raise some eyebrows in camp...
Editor's Note: When it comes to everything and anything sneakers, there's only one guy we here at Project Spurs turn to... Red's Army's Jamey Burke aka KWAPT. KWAPT sent us this review of Tony Parker's signature PEAK sneakers which fans can now buy. Give it a read and make sure to follow KWAPT on Twitter. Ask him what his Twitter name really means. In just two seasons, San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard has made an immediate impact. Whether it be his defense or his offense, he is increasingly becoming an important cog in the Spurs' system.
As the Spurs continue to hold training camp in Colorado, Leonard's teammates spoke on just how special and important he is to the future of the team and the chase for an NBA title.
At San Antonio Spurs' Media Day, 1250 ESPN SA's "The Hardline" caught up with Matt Bonner.
Bonner is known for his deadly three-point shooting, but he also has a very funny side to him as well as you will see in the video below.
From shamelessly promoting Bolthouse Farms' Baby Carrot "Shakedowns" to admitting he is using the team's loss...
Training camp for the San Antonio Spurs rages on as the team prepares for the upcoming season set to kick off later this month.
After day two of training camp out in Colorado, forward Kawhi Leonard spoke to the media. Aside from the usual (and obvious) questions, when he was asked about being seen as a bigger piece for the team, Leonard said it felt good that coach Gregg Popovich...
With the reputation the government has for its quality of work leaving something to be desired, it comes as big surprise to hear that the San Antonio Spurs players are awe struck by the facilities at the Air Force Academy during their four day training camp.
According to Tony Parker the best way to describe the training camp digs is big.
The San Antonio Spurs continue to get ready for the new season out in Colorado at the Air Force Academy.
Luckily for Spurs fan outside of the team's practice facility, social media can bring the sights and sounds of training camp right to you. From free throw shooting to 5-on-5 drills, check out more from Spurs training camp.
How you feel about Marco Belinelli will likely depend on how you feel about Manu Ginobili.
Make no mistake — Belinelli is no Ginobili. Rather he’s a watered-down version of the aging yet still-potent dynamo the Spurs had no doubts about re-signing even after a wildly inconsistent Finals. Considering Ginobili at 36 is a watered-down version of his own best self that isn’t...
With NBA training camps already in full swing, and the season only a few weeks away, we pulled an NBA classic montage out of the archives. It’s also a tribute to Tracy McGrady who retired over the past summer.
The date was March 10, 2004. Wizards v. Magic. Gilbert Arenas v. Tracy McGrady. 2 guys who loved to shoot. On this night, it all went through the nets.
Australia can’t be a basketball country can it?
Jamaicans couldn’t be bobsledders either until Irving Blitzer realized the potential they had and led them to the Calgary Olympics in the classic Disney movie “Cool Runnings”.
So what do new 76ers coach Brett Brown and Irving Blitzer have in common?
The answer: They both helped start a great movement.
As Brown and the 76ers...
