Boston Celtics stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce did not make the trip to Charlotte, N.C., and will not play in Sunday night's game against the Bobcats.
With the Celtics already having clinched a playoff spot, Celtics coach Doc Rivers decided to leave Garnett and Pierce in the New York area after Saturday night's game against the New Jersey Nets. The Celtics have a game Tuesday night at New York. Ray Allen, who is nursing a sore right ankle, wasn't expected to play and didn't make the trip either.
Bobcats coach Paul Silas says he doesn't blame Rivers for the decision and that ''I'd do the same thing if I were in his situation.''
The Bobcats are 7-51 this season and have lost 15 straight games.

IS IT THE END?
Is Paul Pierce contemplating retirement? Based on the way he was talking, it sure sounds like that may be the case for the Celtics forward.
via Sean Grande twitter:
"Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce did not fly with us to Charlotte. With Ray Allen out tonight as well, welcome to the No Big Three Era. Stiemsma and Pietrus will start with Rondo, Bradley and Bass. Doc on leaving Pierce/Garnett in New York: ”I had already told Kevin he wasn’t going to Charlotte..Paul was impromptu off the foot injury.”

Paul Pierce certainly sent a shiver up coach Doc Rivers' spine when the Celtics captain came up limping with a few minutes left in Saturday's 94-82 win over the New Jersey Nets. Rivers quickly sent in Sasha Pavlovic to replace Pierce, who jogged gingerly to the bench but waved off head athletic trainer Ed Lacerte.
Pierce's injury was not much...
Kevin Garnett has been as responsible for this Celtics resurgence as anyone, so this is quite fitting. Rondo's been getting a lot of attention lately, and rightfully so, for his gaudy assist numbers... but are the Celtics in this position without Kevin Garnett as well?
KG has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the week. Here's a look at his week.
Veteran power forward Kevin Garnett has beenabsolutely dominant for the Boston Celtics since moving to center almost a month ago.The Boston Celtics have been steamrolling their opponents for the better part of the last month or so – and maybe it should come as no surprise – seeing as how future Hall of Fame forward Kevin Garnett has raised the level of his play following...
Boston Celtics small forward Paul Pierce is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Bobcats.Pierce injured his left big toe in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 94-82 win over the New Jersey Nets. He had previously talked to head coach Doc Rivers about taking time off before the postseason, and with the injury and the 7-51 Bobcats on the schedule, Sunday seems like...
The Celtics will be Big Three-free Sunday against the Bobcats. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce did not accompany the team to Charlotte, Celtics radio broadcaster Sean Grande reports. Ray Allen was already expected to miss the game with swelling in his right ankle, so Celtics coach Doc Rivers will have a very thin bench. Fortunately for the Celtics, a sparse crew may be enough against...
Pretty soon, Doc Rivers will leave people with no choice but to listen to him. He tried warning everyone that Avery Bradley was a gifted offensive player, and his words came to be true. He has also raved about the positive atmosphere in the locker room this season, predicting the good vibes would win the Celtics a few games they otherwise would lose. One of those games may have come...
Even without Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, the Celtics were too good tonight for the Charlotte Bobcats. The C's won it, 94-82.
Avery Bradley (22 points, 9-14 FG, 2-3 3 FG) has my undying faith. When he takes pull-up jumpers on the break, or spots up in the corner for 3, I fully expect him to make the shot. Incredible.
Rajon Rondo (20 points, 16 assists, 6 rebounds...
Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo know the deal. They are professional athletes, expected to go full-bore whenever the clock is running, and their legs are not going to fall off just because they played a few extra plays. Their bodies can only take so much wear, though, and the Celtics' 84-79 defeat in Toronto on Friday forced them to play more minutes than would have been ideal in...
From the official press release:Boston went 4-1 on the week, going 3-1 in games in which Garnett appeared. Garnett averaged 20.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks for the surging Celtics. He recorded three point-rebound double-doubles on the week, including a 21-point, 12-rebound effort on April 14 during a 94-82 win at New Jersey. …April 10 @ Miami...
The Celtics rebounded nicely last night defeating the Nets, following an abysmal loss in Toronto which yielded very little effort. There was a lot of solid plays to take from this game and they are highlighted below. About the only negative from the game was Paul Pierce's minor injury to his left big toe. Enjoy the clips as a primer for the tail end of the back-to-back...
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Rajon Rondo had 20 points and 16 assists to help the Boston Celtics beat the Charlotte Bobcats 94-82 Sunday night despite playing without three of their star players.
Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen were given the night off to rest and did not make the trip to Charlotte, N.C. to face the NBA-worst Bobcats. But the Celtics won anyway as Aaron Bradley...
