Gatorade Showers in The NBA? This Has to Stop

Posted June 18, 2008 on WalkerSports's Blog:
During the last moment o last nights Boston vs. L.A. game the Celtics were celebrating their victory, and then it happened. The Gatorade shower. Paul Piece was the one who did the honors and tossed the buck all over an unsuspecting Doc rivers, spilling the red liquid on the bench and on the court at the Garden. A first in the NBA. Now the Gatorade bath first made an appearance when Harry Carson showered Bill Parcels during the Super Bowl, it was meant as a prank. Somehow since that moment the shower has become a tradition in football, and now is carrying onto the hardwood. I am all about tradition and all about guys celebrating a hard fought victory. However, the Gatorade shower is one of the dumbest ideas in the history of sports. It really serves no purpose on the football field. Now on the basketball court it a terrible idea. There is no place for the liquid to go. And now with guys so eager to prematuraly celebrate, it is just a matter of time before you see the closing moments of a game ruined because a guy goes down in a puddle of the newest Gatorade flavor.
