After seven successful seasons away Edward L. House II has returned to the team that drafted him 37th overall in the 2000 NBA Draft.

Eddie House is a 10-year veteran who spent parts of last season with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. This upcoming season he will be bringing  his much needed 39% three point average back to Miami where he played from 2000-2003.

House had a prolific collegiate career at Arizona State. He finished his 4 years as the schools all time leading scorer with 2,044 points and all time steals leader with 258. Those note worthy stats made him only the second player in PAC 10 history to reach 2,000 points and 250 steals (Gary Payton being the other). As a Senior he set the school record for points in a game with 61 versus Cal.

Playing for three different coaches in four years at Arizona prepared Eddie for the NBA roller coaster/coaching windmill that he has experienced as a pro.

In 2000 this Berkeley, California  native charmed and married the sister of professional basketball player, Mike Bibby. Coincidentally, both Eddie House and Mike Bibby played together for the Sacramento Kings in 04-05 and were Arizona Wildcat alums.

Eddie and his wife have three sons. Jaelen (the eldest) is often seen at games supporting his father. Thanks to his pop’s profession, Jaelen was able to star on his own cartoon network show titled “My Dad is a Pro.” Next season he’ll get to see dear old dad team up with the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the NBA’s most talked about team.

House could be known as a successful NBA journeyman. He has been a solid rotation player since being drafted and played a role with nine different teams. As soon as his rookie contract expired with Miami he went on and signed as a free agent with the Clippers.  Throughout the years House also played for the Bobcats, Bucks, Kings, Suns, Nets, Celtics, and Knicks. He is the type of role player every team in the NBA could use to win a championship. He proved that with his clutch shooting, which helped The 2007-08 Boston Celtics return to glory over.

House is one of the best three point shooters in the NBA. His bread and butter, the jump-shot, is where 91% of his points derive from. He has an incredibly quick release that comes with a beautiful rainbow arching shot.

If the Heat ever decide to go with a smaller lineup, House could be a great option to place on the floor with the “Three Kings”. He is smart enough to execute his teams set offense while keeping his turnovers to a minimum. House will want the ball in his hands and will visibly call for it while teams are perplexed with who the heck to guard.

He is also a player who has been through the wars and won a title and will bring a much needed positive veteran attitude to the Heat Locker room. It may even be conceivable that for him to be in the running for sixth man of the year this season.

When Eddie was in Miami he was a fan favorite due to his at times explosive shooting ability. Even Pat Riley’s daughters loved him. She along with other fans at Heat home games could be seen wearing “Free Eddie House” t-shirts in an effort to get the young guard more playing time.

By bringing him back Pat Riley has given House a great opportunity to play an important role in the Heat’s rotation alongside superstars Wade, James and Bosh. “It’s just a great fit,” Marc Bartelstein (Eddie’s agent) told the Miami Herald. “This guy had a great relationship with the Heat before and he’s still one of the most dynamic guys coming off the bench at hitting big shots in big moments. He’s the best in the league at what he does.”

Get the feeling Pat got a steal by singing this proven veteran for 2.8 million over two years.

Riley banked on House being hungry to play for more titles. He figured there was no way he could turn down a chance to play with Miami’s big Three that House calls “Boston on Steroids.” He was correct and as a result the Heat will get to benefit.
