The Miami Heat made it official Tuesday, announcing the signing of center Greg Oden. While the team did not disclose terms of the deal, he reportedly will make the minimum in his classification of 1.027 million next season. If he invokes his player option in 2014-15, he will earn 1.145 million. "After many months of discussion, evaluations and speaking with Greg, we felt it was a perfect time for him to make his comeback and re-enter the NBA with the Miami Heat," said Heat president Pat Riley in a press release. "It's a great challenge for him. We know all about his past injuries, but we feel that there is a huge upside and the possibility of him helping us, that's why we took the risk. We will continue his program and then we will tackle basketball issues after that." Oden, 25, hasn't played in an NBA game since December 2009 due to knee injuries. He has only played in 82 games since being taken No. 1 in 2007, one spot ahead of Kevin Durant. Oden was waived by the Trail Blazers in March 2012, near the end of his fifth year, and sat out all of last season while rehabilitating. "I'm very confident that he's going to have a successful NBA career," Oden's agent Mike Conley previously told FOX Sports Florida. "He's very determined. He's been looking good in workouts. I know the Heat were impressed." Conley said Oden could be ready for the Oct. 29 regular-season opener. However, he said it would be up to the Heat whether he plays then. "I am very excited and happy to be here," said Oden, who has career averages of 9.4 points and 7.3 rebounds, via press release. "I'm thankful to the Miami Heat organization for bringing me in and Im ready to get to work."
