Yesterday was the first day for any of the former North Carolina Basketball players to show off their stuff at the next level as the NBA Summer League began its games in Las Vegas. One of the first day’s game had the Warriors taking on the Lakers, as Golden State put on the court Harrison Barnes, their first round pick from this past draft after signing him earlier this week. Without a doubt it’s safe to say that the former Tar Heel did not disappoint anyone that watched him play in this one, leading me to once again say that he will be a much better pro than he was a college player.

In what was a blow out for the Warriors, who took this one 90 to 50 over a Lakers team that did not look like it was meant to be on the floor, Barnes ended with 23 points (8 for 13 ~ 4 for 4 ~ 3 for 5) to go with two rebounds and a steal in about 25 and a half minutes of playing time and with a points differential of +34. While the small forward from Chapel Hill did not even led the team in scoring, that was NBA vet Klay Thompson with 24 points, it was evident that the duo were the driving force behind what Golden State did. When you look at the stat sheet seeing Barnes hitting four out of four from outside the arc can only make you think of good things to come for the young man. I know that one game, especially in the Summer League, does not a season or a career make, but you have to have a positive feeling about it.

But there is no resting on your laurels when it comes to the Summer League as the Golden State Warriors and their top selection are back in action today once again. For the young man who most of the fan base loved his two seasons where he called the Dean Dome home, but some felt that he did not fulfill his goals while in the North Carolina Basketball program, it is now time to show everyone what he can do at the next level. As I do with all the present and former Heels let me wish all the best to Barnes as he has begun the next chapter of his basketball career.
