The #celtics will open their 2013-14 season and the Brad Stevens era against the Toronto #Raptors, according to two NBA sources — gary washburn (@GwashNBAGlobe) August 6, 2013 We knew when Danny traded Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett that the Celtics were officially rebuilding. But that point was driven home this morning when I saw the above tweet from Gary Washburn of the Globe. The years of opening against the Heat, or Knicks for that matter, are no more for awhile. If it didn't hit you before that it's going to be a rough year, it should have when you saw that their opening night game was vs the lowly Raptors. The contenders, like the Heat, Thunder, Knicks, Nets, Rockets and Pacers, will be on TNT and will be getting the top spots and the big games. The schedule will be officially unveiled tonight on NBA-TV at 6:00 PM ET and I don't expect the Celtics to get any of the premier games this season. Even Lakers-Celtics matchups have lost their luster with both teams struggling. I also don't expect many national TV appearances. They are still the Celtics, though and so I don't expect a TV blackout. It will be an adjustment for new Celtics fans who jumped on the bandwagon in 2008 for the fun ride that was the KG era. But for those of us who stuck with the team through thick and thin over the years, it's just another bump in the road. Unlike in the lean years in the 70's and late 80's and early 90's, we now have League Pass and so we aren't dependent on national TV to get our Celtics' fix. I'll be watching every game and waiting for Danny's next move to get the Celtics back where they belong, in the winner's circle. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
