Found June 16, 2012 on Red's Army:
It’s been over a week since I came to the conclusion that Kevin Garnett would retire after this season. I was convinced of it immediately after watching KG answer a question from ESPN’s Doris Burke after the Celtics beat the Miami Heat in game 5 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Burke asked KG what fuels him after 17 years in the league. KG said “competition”, then looked in the camera and defiantly answered his critics. He spoke to those who say he’s a dirty player (Hawks owner Michael Gearon, Jr.), and those who claim he’s too old to be great. Garnett boldly told a national television audience that it’s the naysayers who fuel him to be the best. But I also saw a man who was nearing the end of the line, both physically and mentally. A man genuinely hurt by the constant doubting of his skills from owners, fans, columnists, and talk show hosts. A proud warrior who was sick of having to prove himself after winning an NBA title, league MVP, multiple All-Defensive team selections,...

Perkins: KG will only play for Doc

According to former Celtic Kendrick Perkins, Kevin Garnett is on the fence about retiring but doesn't want to play for any coach other than Doc Rivers.

KG a lock to return to the Celtics?

The Big Ticket's NBA future is up in the air, but one of his former coaches thinks it is all-but-guaranteed that KG returns to Boston next season.

Kevin Garnett's Choice in Free Agency Could Impact How Celtics Approach Roster for Next Season

Kevin Garnett is reportedly waiting to see what direction the Celtics are going in before he signs on for another year or two with the club. The Celtics, meanwhile, are apparently waiting to see what direction Garnett wants to go in before they commit to a set plan for next season's roster. At some point, someone will have to act, but until then Celtics fans must deal with the...

Vote: Will Kevin Garnett Return to the Boston Celtics Next Season?

The Boston Celtics came within a game of the NBA Finals, and Kevin Garnett was the driving force behind the deep postseason run. Garnett, who recently turned 36 years old, averaged a double-double during the 2012 NBA playoffs and provided the Celtics with a defensive presence down low. But Garnett's contract has expired, and the future of the Celtics is in flux. Ray Allen'...

Garnett waiting on the Celtics

One of the most interesting teams to watch this offseason will be the Boston Celtics. They have to face the decision of bringing back their aging veterans or letting their stars go and starting over. They were within one win of the NBA Finals, so it would be hard to make the argument that the current team they have doesn’t work, but will the wear and tear of another year push them...

Rumor: Celtics considering strong offer for Bulls’ Asik’s Sam Smith has this scoop: The Celtics are one the teams said to be considering a strong offer to Bulls center Asik. The thinking is it might help them retain Kevin Garnett, who though playing very well at center the second half of the season doesn’t want to return as a center. .. Smith doesn’t have the greatest reputation for reporting scoops, but tis the season...

Perkins Expects Garnett To Return To Celtics

Kevin Garnett will enter unrestricted free agency for the first time in his 17-year NBA career.

Celtics considering strong offer for Bulls center

IAMGM: According to Sam Smith from The Celtics are one the teams said to be considering a strong offer to Bulls center Omer Asik. The thinking is it might help them retain Kevin Garnett, who though playing very well at center the second half of the season doesn’t want to return as a center. Asik would definitely be a great add, but I'd prefer him coming off of the...

Perkins joins the growing chorus: Garnett considering retirement, won’t play for anyone but Doc Rivers

If you didn’t trust Sam Cassell, who shared the exact same news earlier this week, maybe you can believe Kendrick Perkins: Kevin Garnett is conflicted about retirement, but won’t play for anyone except Doc Rivers if he returns for an 18th NBA season. (CBS Sports)Despite the comfort zone Perkins has found in the heartland, you get the sense a piece of him died when the Celtics...

Your Morning Dump… where Perk thinks KG’s coming back to Boston

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I feel like if he does return to basketball, I think that that would be the team,’’ Perkins said of the Celtics. “I heard Kevin say a few times that he wouldn’t want to play for anybody but Doc, so...

Celtics’ Kevin Garnett will be back next year

Boston Celtics’ power forward Kevin Garnett has hinted that his Game 7 lost to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals may have been his final game but if anyone knows how much of a competitor Garnett is, then rest assure you will see him next year. He will be playing for a fraction of the $21 million he made last season though which may actually be a good thing for the...

Wyc Grousbeck: ‘The picture is not in place for next year yet’

The Boston Celtics are entering an offseason maze. They have four players currently under contract for 2012-13. Kevin Garnett is pondering retirement and his decision figures to be the first domino to fall. But even Garnett’s choice will only begin to define an offseason which will require Danny Ainge to fill 11 roster spots while deciding whether to continue with the Big Three...

Vote: Which Celtics Free Agent Is Most Important for C's to Re-Sign?

The Big Three's window in Boston may finally be closing. It's safe to say that the Celtics got much more than they bargained for out of the combination of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, what with the C's taking the Heat to Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals. What was expected to be a three-year run at the title has turned into a five-year era in the storied...

Most Overrated Draft Propects (Anthony Davis You Are Overrated)

Anthony Davis- PF- Kentucky - There is no doubt that Davis is a fantastic prospect and absolutely worthy of the top pick in the draft, but expectations must be tempered. There has been talk of him possibly being a better version of Kevin Garnett and on par with Tim Duncan, which is simply ridiculous. These are two of the best big men of all time and to think that Davis is on their...

End of an era!

Did the Miami Heat bring Boston’s ‘big Three’ era to an unceremoniously end last week? Most basketball observers think so to some degree – and I agree. While I believe it’s of the utmost importance that Boston bring back unrestricted free agent Kevin Garnett, I can very well see the team losing sweet-shooting two guard Ray Allen. Allen may have finished up the 2011-12 season...
