Los Angeles Lakers
CLEVELAND -- It's been almost a month since the Cavaliers won at Quicken Loans Arena. They rode the hot hand of point guard Kyrie Irving to pound the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, 99-83, before an announced crowd of 13,149 at The Q. Irving erupted for a game-high 33 points to help the Cavs snap a six-game losing streak at home. He converted 11 of 15 from the field, 5 of 6 from the 3-point line and 6 of 6 from the foul line. He dished out four assists. "We've proven we can play with the best teams in the league," Irving said. "We have to play a full 48 minutes. Home court is definitely important." The Cavs are just 4-12 at home this season. They hadn't won at The Q since Dec. 11 against the Los Angeles Lakers. Irving was particularly lethal in the fourth quarter with 18 points. "He was aggressive (in the fourth)," Cavs coach Byron Scott said. "I didn't think he took any bad shots. He let the offense come to him. He was ab...

Sometimes you think you know something. And then someone really smart says something that challenges what you think you know, and it makes you look at the subject from an entirely different point of view. And when the context changes, you can sometimes be surprised at what you learn.
I love the WFNY Podcasts that Craig is doing, and by far my two favorite episodes have been the two...
Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao had surgery to repair a split leg muscle, an injury that could sideline him two more months.
Varejao had the operation on Thursday at The Cleveland Clinic. The team said he is resting comfortably and will be kept overnight. Varejao, the NBA's leading rebounder, has been sidelined since getting hurt against Toronto on Dec. 18. His injury was...
If you have ever wanted to know how much time and effort and resources go into the creation of the 90-second video that serves as a high-decibel, bright light visual prologue to each and every Cavaliers game, look no further. Jordan Zirm, a New Yorker by the way of Cleveland, has published an extremely well-written piece on the nuances and decisions that went into Machine Gun Kelly...
The Cleveland Cavaliers must be kicking themselves a little bit for not trading Anderson Varejao when they had the chance. Varejao was the hottest commodity on the market only a few weeks ago when he was hitting 15 and 15 almost every night. Now a knee injury that the team originally thought would keep him out just a couple of days, looks to be much more severe. Varejao is going...
CLEVELAND -- Well, how about that?
On the same day the Cavs found out Anderson Varejao will be lost for another six to eight weeks with a knee injury (and surgery), they come out and play like a bunch of wild things.
They played with energy, they played with focus, they played with a purpose. If you didnt know any better, youd think they've been doing this a while.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been without Anderson Varejao for 10 games now, and he will not play tonight. This comes after being diagnosed with a bruised knee. That's right, a bruised knee. If we are considering the history of injury diagnoses in the NBA this season, we may want to disregard the initial diagnosis. Remember Steve Nash's shin contusion? According...
It’s hard not to feel some pain for Anderson Varejao after hearing the news that his knee contusion was in fact a torn muscle in his leg. Memories of Andy winning the game with a buzzer beating 3-pointer against Atlanta, and giving Ray Allen the business during a national televised game against the Celtics are two of my favorite moments I’ve enjoyed at the Q. I’ve really never...
CLEVELAND -- Guard Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 33 points to propel the Cavaliers to a 99-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena. Irving was magnificent on the offensive end by making 11 of 15 from the field, 5 of 6 from the 3-point line and 6 of 6 from the foul line. The 6-foot-3, 191-pounder dished out four assists. The Hawks (20-14), who...
The news that Samardo Samuels had been waived by the Cavaliers this weekend was a major bummer.
I enjoyed Samardo playing in Cleveland over the last few years and will miss having him around.
On the Stepien Rules Facebook page I went into more detail this morning. I only bring it up here, too, in order to enter these sentiments for the record.
The Rudy Gay...
Cleveland Caveliers C Anderson Varejao will need surgery for a torn leg muscle and will be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks. Tonight’s game at home against the Atlanta Hawks will mark the 11th straight game Varejao has missed. At first he was listed as day-to-day but the “bruise” wasn’t healing, causing team Doctors to [...]The post Dommermuth: Varejao Out w/ Torn Leg Muscle...
“I’m still trying to be very optimistic that he’ll be able to play, I just don’t know when,” Scott said. “I hope I’m not talking like it’s long term or for the season, I’m still optimistic he’ll be able to play this year until the doctors tell me something different.”
Scott didn’t provide many more details about the injury, but agreed that after missing 10...
Anderson Varejao was injured during the Cavaliers game against the Raptors on Dec. 8.
After missing 10 games, the Cleveland Cavaliers have decided that Anderson Varejao needs surgery to repair a "a small longitudinal split in the vastus medialis." In a post I wrote back in early December, the Cavaliers missed out on their chance to "dump" Varejao and his injury prone style of play while he was the hottest thing in basketball. Clearly the Cavaliers...
The Nuggets are outscoring opponents by 10 points at home, the most in the NBA. Thats bad news for the Cavaliers, who could be without Kyrie Irving, who has the flu and missed todays shootaround. Either way, the Cavs have won two of their last four and are coming off an impressive home win over the Hawks. The Nuggets have won three straight, and seven of 10, and hold...
