Not even a week after losing their All-Star point guard, Rajon Rondo to an ACL injury, the Celtics have now lost their promising rookie forward to a season-ending back injury. Sullinger underwent successful lumbar disc surgery Friday and is expected back at the start of next year’s training camp.
According to ESPN Boston:
Boston Celtics rookie forward Jared Sullinger underwent lumbar disc surgery today at the New England Baptist Hospital and will miss the remainder of the 2012-13 season. Sullinger is expected to be ready for the start of the team’s 2013-14 training camp.
The rookie 6-foot-9 forward left Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings just four minutes in with back spasms and did not return. Though he did not practice on Thursday and missed the team’s morning shootaround on Friday, coach Doc Rivers and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge both initially downplayed the severity of the injury.
