WALTHAM, Mass. -- There are some side effects to hitting so many clutch shots over the course of a 13-year NBA career. After a player delivers a few back-breaking 3-pointers, anything that happens outside of a pressure situation does not easily keep his interest. That could be why Jason Terry, a former NBA champion and Sixth Man of the Year, is not very fond of practice. The Celtics guard became known as a solid primetime performer with the Dallas Mavericks, but he admits that he was not always motivated when the bright lights were not shining. If there was no shot at glory, what fun was that? When Terry signed with the Celtics this summer, however, coach Doc Rivers challenged Terry to make a change. So far this preseason, Terry has responded. "What Doc told me before I came here was, 'Do something different. Change your habit,'" Terry said Friday at the Celtics practice facility. "My habit when I came to this team was, I hated p...

This Just In: Jason Terry Can Shoot

Jason Terry shows off his shooting ability in this clip. He makes 17 in a row and 18 of 19 in the video. That certainly should help Celtics fans forget the former #20. [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Grantland’s Amos Barshad killed his piece on Jason Terry

I wanted to write something captivating, something magnanimous and beautiful and Joe Posnanskian, but instead I’ll just refrain from describing Amos Barshad’s piece on Jason Terry. My own words would only serve to illustrate how he’s a better, more imaginative, more entertaining writer than I am.So just do yourself a favor and go read his piece.

Doc Rivers indicates Ray Allen wasn't a good team player last season

The NBA season begins on Tuesday with an exciting matchup between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat. Not only is the game a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals, but it also marks the first game for Heat guard Ray Allen against his former team. Allen chose to sign with the Heat in free agency and was called a traitor for choosing to play for Boston’s rival. Allen’s...

Sean Grande interviews the Big Ticket

This audio of Kevin Garnett speaking with Sean Grande, the radio voice of the Boston Celtics, is from Media Day 2012. It aired a couple of weeks ago during halftime of a C’s preseason game. In it, KG pulls no punches as he speaks about Danny’s new acquisitions and his love for the city of Boston. The best part of the interview however is when Ticket talks about the legendary...

Celtics' mission is to kill whoever they're against

Those are not my words, they are Jet's, quoted and slightly paraphrased from a wonderfully written Grantland piece by Amos Barshad. Are you somehow still not psyched about Jason Terry? Do you have questions about Celtics' spirit before the season starts? Please read that article and get psyched. (Also, it will probably feel quite refreshing after reading items in which Allen...

Doc Rivers Knows of Two, Possibly Three Heat Players Who Are 'A Lot Better Than Ray' Allen (Video)

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Doc Rivers and the Celtics have been busy all week preparing for the regular season, which begins Tuesday against the Miami Heat. The Heat are a familiar foe, and not only because the Celtics faced them seven times in last year's Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat also happen to employ a certain ex-Celtics guard who has kept the local...

Doc: Enough Talk

Doc Rivers is done fighting the battle of words with Ray Allen. Chris Forsberg reports that the Celtics coach said, "'We're going to just let Ray keep talking... It's easier'" when interviewed earlier today. Doc is focused on creating a game plan to take down Miami, and I'm sure he just wants to get the distractions out of the way. Ray recently made...

Your Morning Dump… Where Doc doesn’t think Ray’s got his facts straight

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Asked about the potential Phoenix deal, Rivers said on Wednesday, “I didn’t even know it, so I’m surprised right now. I never knew that. I don’t think that’s true.” When asked for a rebuttal on Wednesday...

2012-13 Celtics Are On a Mission To Hoist Another Championship Banner

Last season, the Celtics season shockingly ended abruptly after folding to the eventual Champion Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Not that they didn’t make a good run. They came back from a difficult start and rolled through the playoffs looking like they were in good form. However, after some controversial contests with the Heat where there were a number of questionable...

Removing Center Position From NBA All-Star Ballot Was Inevitable, As Sport Continues to Evolve

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The lineup adjustment that saved the Celtics' season last year was described in shorthand -- both at the time and in retrospect -- as moving Kevin Garnett to center. Anyone who watched the Celtics play from beginning to end noticed their drastic improvement after the All-Star break and in the playoffs, when a smaller, more versatile group spearheaded a surprising...

Jeff Green, Jared Sullinger, Other Offseason Additions Should Improve Celtics' Already Effective Passing Game

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Doc Rivers never had any problem convincing his players to share the ball last season, as evidenced by the Celtics' league-leading assist percentage. When the passing game would break down -- which was more often than Rivers liked -- the difficulty was a problem of execution, rather than intent. Almost to a man, last year's Celtics...

Predicting the Boston Celtics minute distributions by position

As the season draws closer, the Celtics player rotation still needs to take shape.  This season more than others– with  so much depth and so many impact offseason additions, it remains unclear as to what player combinations the Celtics will play. Doc Rivers and the rest of the coaching staff could go many different directions as they have toyed with ‘position-less’ lineups...
