MINNEAPOLIS After spending two 10-day contracts with the Timberwolves, Chris Johnson and Mickael Gelabale proved more valuable to the team than Lou Amundson, who had been with Minnesota all season. The Timberwolves on Friday announced that they have signed Johnson and Gelabale for the rest of the season and have waived Amundson to make room on the roster.Because a team can offer only two 10-day contracts per season to a player, both Johnson and Gelabale had to either be retained or released after their short-term deals expired overnight. Both players arrived Jan. 19 and immediately moved ahead of Amundson, a September free-agent pickup, in the rotation.Johnson, a 6-foot-11 center, has averaged 8.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 15.0 minutes in seven games. The team leaned on him heavily when starter Nikola Pekovic was out with an injury, but Johnson has played sparingly or not at all since Pekovics return despite shooting 75.0 percent from the field.Gelabale, a 6-foot-7 swingman, has played in 10 games with averages of 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 20.6 minutes. He has played fewer than 16 minutes only once since the Timberwolves signed him and is making 54.3 percent of his shots.Amundson, a 6-foot-9 forward, was averaging 1.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game. He had appeared in only 20 games and had played just 32 minutes in four games since Johnson and Gelebale joined the team.

Rubio added to BBVA Rising Stars game

MINNEAPOLIS When the 18-man roster for the BBVA Rising Stars game, a part of NBA All-Star weekend, was announced last week, there was at least one noteable omission. NBA rookie wall is real but not easily defined

MINNEAPOLIS Derrick Williams saw it on tape. After last season, when he sat down and played back those games starting in February, around the All-Star Break, it was there. He'll admit to such now, a year out, now that the whole thing is behind him. It, in this instance, is the rookie wall, the vague notion that seems to be on the tip of everyone's tongues this time of year...

Rubio: The Story of Ricky

Although he has revved up as an assists machine again, Ricky Rubio has been absolutely brutal with the FG%, and not in the good way. Last night, he shot for 9 points on 3 of 13 and added 4 rebounds, 11 assists, and 3 steals. He is barely shooting above 30% for the year. He shot a little better last season, but still less than 36%. Last night marked the first time he took more than...
