On Tuesday evening, Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace made his triumphant and surprising return to the court for his team’s game against the New Orleans Hornets at Staples Center. What makes Metta World Peace’s return to the floor so surprising is that it came a mere 12 days after undergoing knee surgery. Kobe Bryant was so impressed with his Metta’s recuperative powers that he has bestowed upon his teammate the new nickname of “Wolverine.” While Mr. World Peace did get on the court for a tick over 15 minutes, his contributions were minimal, scoring only 4 points, although it should be noted that the Lakers were a +12 with him on the court during its critical 104-96 victory as the team is barely holding on in the Western Conference playoff race. In any event, even though his on-court addition was a near-miraculous testament to his speedy recovery post-surgery, Metta’s real contribution to the story of the game occurred in the locker room following it, when he provided a c...

Kobe Bryant Bestows New Nickname on Metta World Peace

I feel like the Lakers, Kobe especially, just toss around new nicknames a little too flippantly. The latest nickname to surface is one which Kobe is giving to Metta World Peace, who is set to possibly make a comeback to the court Tuesday night when the Lakers play New Orleans. The fact that Metta is set to return already, is actually worthy of a new nickname. According to the LA...

Kobe impressed with MWP's healing powers

Count Kobe Bryant as a Metta World Peace admirer. After suffering a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee on March 25, MWP was expected to miss a minimum of six weeks. But, not even a week after surgery to fix the tear, World Peace is set to suit up for the Lakers on Tuesday vs. New Orleans at 10:30 p.m. ET. Bryant, a veteran of 17 NBA seasons and numerous injuries, was more than...

NBA Playoffs “Power” video featuring Will I Am, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James & more

The NBA playoffs are 12 days away and the NBA began showing its promo video over the weekend. The video features several NBA players displaying their dance skills with Will.I.Am to his song “Power.” Things to be on the look out for; Joakim Noah’s booty shake, Kobe Bryant’s non-dancing- I’m fairly certain Kobe has zero skills in that area- and Will.I.Am’s fake dunk…...

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Kobe Bryant scored a season-high 47 points and the Los Angeles Lakers pulled closer to a playoff berth with a 113-106 victory over the short-handed Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. It All Comes Down to 5

One positive thing going for the Lakers should they make it to the playoffs is no team will worry about the Lakers beating them in a 7-game series. But that doesn't necessarily give the Lakers an automatic edge over their opponent considering that this team is still having a tough time comprehending the importance of winning every game in order to even plan on what they...

Kobe Bryant: ‘I would have smacked the hell out of Mike Rice’ (Video)

There have been a number of different reactions to the video clips that surfaced last week of former Rutgers men’s basketball coach Mike Rice physically and verbally abusing his players. One of Rice’s former players, Mike Coburn, said that Rice took it too far at times but that the team understood him. Chipper Jones said he thought the players should toughen up and that he has...

Metta World Peace may return 12 days after knee surgery

Metta World Peace is the bionic man. Less than two weeks ago, it looked like World Peace’s season with the Los Angeles Lakers would be over. He had surgery on March 28 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, and reports said he would be out six weeks. But it looks like World Peace may return for the team’s Tuesday game against the New Orleans Hornets, just 12 days after...

San Antonio Spurs: Is The West’s 2nd Seed Actually Better?

Fans of the San Antonio Spurs may be scared that they may lose their hold on the 1st seed in the Western Conference playoffs. But there is a question they should ask themselves. Would they rather face a young, run and gun Houston Rockets team with a poor defense and a turnover prone offense, or a team sporting four future Hall of Famers? Sure the Los Angeles Lakers have not looked...
