On Tuesday evening, Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace made his triumphant and surprising return to the court for his team’s game against the New Orleans Hornets at Staples Center. What makes Metta World Peace’s return to the floor so surprising is that it came a mere 12 days after undergoing knee surgery. Kobe Bryant was so impressed with his Metta’s recuperative powers that he has bestowed upon his teammate the new nickname of “Wolverine.” While Mr. World Peace did get on the court for a tick over 15 minutes, his contributions were minimal, scoring only 4 points, although it should be noted that the Lakers were a +12 with him on the court during its critical 104-96 victory as the team is barely holding on in the Western Conference playoff race. In any event, even though his on-court addition was a near-miraculous testament to his speedy recovery post-surgery, Metta’s real contribution to the story of the game occurred in the locker room following it, when he provided a curious explanation as to why he was able to return to action so quickly. Yep, Metta World Peace is too sexy for his cat. Apparently. And to make sure everyone within earshot understood how much his sexiness is for his cat, he repeated the feline mantra over and over. Of course, the “Too sexy for my cat” is a nod to the line from what should have been the multiple Grammy Award-winning track from Right Said Fred, “I’m Too Sexy.” Via Point Forward: “Well, you know, I’m just too sexy for my cat,” he said. “I’m too sexy for my cat. My cat. I’m just too sexy for my cat. If I wasn’t as sexy for my cat, I probably wouldn’t have came back. I’m so sexy, I came back. Too sexy for my cat, too sexy to wear a sleeve or a bracelet [on my knee], so I had to come back. I felt sexy, I felt like my team was working, I felt like we wanted it. We just wanted to come together collectively. Play hard, do it together. … I’m definitely too sexy for my cat, definitely, we know that. I’m also too tough to let a meniscus surgery keep me out for six weeks. I’m too sexy for the cat.” There you have it. Metta World Peace is too sexy for his cat. Good to know. Good to know.
