At one point during the second half of Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, Dwyane Wade got caught in a switch and ended up covering Kevin Durant. Wade is extremely athletic, but this is a combination that the Heat want to avoid as much as possible in this series. K.D. has too much height and length for D-Wade to handle, and according to Wade that is exactly what Durant told him while they were trading smack talk on the court.

“He told me I was too small,” Wade said after the game according to Pro Basketball Talk. “I had to run down the court and say ‘what’d you say again’ and he said ‘you’re too small.’

“He’s got seven inches on me, so, I played good defense but he’s a scorer and he made a good shot.”

On that particular possession, Durant scored over Wade. Durant is listed at 6-foot-9 but has the length of 7-footer and ball skills of a point guard. For the most part, anyone who is athletic enough to cover him is “too small.” The 6-foot-4 Wade is no exception.

As LeBron James mentioned over the weekend, the Heat can’t stop Durant. Like any other superstar in the league, they merely have to contain him enough to prevent him from taking over the game. Miami was successful in doing that in Game 2 and Game 3 and as a result has swung the series in their favor.
