With news breaking that Raymond Felton was coming back to New York and the team did not have plans on matching Houston’s offer sheet to Jeremy Lin, fans everywhere are surprised. And apparently, some Knicks fans are not happy. At all.

Fans have started a petition to Knicks management to keep Jeremy Lin in town. The Harvard graduate was an instant fan favorite, as he was a huge reason that the team made a run to make it to the playoffs. The petition has over 600 signatures, and growing, so far.

This is the pledge that the petition is pushing:

Jeremy Lin is the best thing that has happened to New York Knicks basketball in the last 20 years.  With Jeremy Lin as the team’s leader, the team won.  He averaged 18 points and 7 assists as a starter – All-Star level performance.  He has the largest fan base of any player in the NBA, by an order of magnitude.  He’s got the personality and character that fans love.  He’s the one player the New York Knicks need to keep, not lose.  Don’t let Jeremy Lin go – match the Rockets’ offer.

I’m not quite sure Jeremy Lin is as good as this petition makes him out to be, but you get the point. And he is certainly not the team’s most important player.

Can someone really be the team’s leader and best player if he refuses to play in the playoffs at 85%?

After all, Raymond Felton is now back in town. He was very good for the Knicks before he was traded, and very well might be the better option at point guard. Especially for the price. Jeremy Lin is getting a huge amount of money from Houston, particularly in the last year.
