Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving put on quite the show in Las Vegas on Thursday night, scoring 23 points in the Team USA Showcase. In just 27 minutes of play, Irving dazzled with a lethal array of dribble-drives coupled with three-point range. In addition to the scoring, he added seven assists, a steal and two three-pointers as his White team topped the Blue team 128-106. The “Showcase” ended what was a four-day minicamp that was the preliminary step in creating a pool of candidates for the 2014 World Cup in Spain and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero. It was reported earlier this week that Irving is “a lock” for the former; he is thought to be a strong candidate for the latter as well given his play and relationship with Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Cleveland’s shooting guard Dion Waiters started for the Blue team and finished with just five points in 23 minutes, making just 2-of-10 from the floor. Cavs center Tyler Zeller came off the bench for the Irving-led White team, finishing with eight points and five rebounds. [Related: Is Dion Waiters primed to make the leap?]
