If you’ve been wondering how good of a football player LeBron James could be, you can at least visualize it now. The Miami Heat star unveiled brand new football uniforms for his alma mater, Akron High School, over the weekend as part of his second annual “I Promise Family Reunion,” an event for the LeBron James Family Foundation. The program, which includes 700 students, provides them with a full back-to-school kit — including a bike, helmet, school uniform and backpack tags — after completion of a two-week pro-education camp. It’s all a small part of James’ mission to give back. Thanks to James — who led the basketball team to three state championships at the high school and was named all-state in football during his time there — every sport will receive new uniforms at Akron, and the school will receive a $1 million gym upgrade this winter. “I don’t really put a title on it,” James said of his charity. “I do it because I have a passion. I do it because I want to do it. It’s not because someone came to me and said, ‘You should do this because you owe it to them.’ It’s something that was instilled in me to give back. This is my city, there’s 190,000 of us. For me to be one of the few to make it, it wasn’t hard at all.” Of course, the photos don’t mean we can expect James to pursue an NFL career — one Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant thinks he would be “beast” at — any time soon, but it certainly helps our imagination.
