If you ever wondered why LeBron James deferred to the likes of Donyell Marshall, Mike Miller and Eddie House in certain late-game situations, last night provided your answer.
Down by three points with 16 seconds remaining in regulation, the Miami Heat bench drew up a play to get James the ball at the top of the key and make a play.
And he did just that — albeit a play that had Bulls fans cackling as LeBron joined the likes of Gerry Thomas, Dan Mowrey, Matt Munyon and Scott Norwood in the Wide Right Club.
We might never know what was going through LeBron’s mind when he chucked up a shot that looked as if it came off the finger tips of a JV bench warmer. Maybe he wanted to show a nationally televised audience that he could be Jordanesque by nailing a clutch shot in the guts of a game — in the house that Michael Jordan built, no less.
In any case, maybe we’ll learn to back off King James when he defers to one of his court jesters when the game is on the line.
