Minnesota Timberwolves: Timberwolves’ Free Agency Grades
By Mike Elworth: Owner and Publisher/Hoopstuff…
Signed Kevin Martin (4 years, 28 million)
Sign and Traded Luke Ridnour For Corey Brewer (3 years, 14 million)
Resigned Nikola Pekovic (5 years, 60 million)
Resigned Chase Budinger (3 years, 16 million)
- The best and the most important move this team made this summer, was retaining their All Star caliber and franchise center, Nikola Pekovic. Pekovic is a part of their 3 man core of superstar, Kevin Love and rising point guard, Ricky Rubio and they proved that to him by signing him to a hefty, but fair, long term contract. He is one of the best offensive post players and offensive rebounders in the NBA and is easily worth the money they gave him.
The rest of what they did was giving their perimeter a much needed makeover. By far their biggest weakness was their perimeter talent and after drafting Shabazz Muhammad with their first, first round pick, 14th overall, they ad...
BEST OF MAXIM
MINNEAPOLIS -- It'd register as a shock if the Timberwolves don't pick up the team option on Derrick Williams' contract for 2014-15.
Minnesota's front office has until Oct. 31 to make a decision.
"We'll see how camp is, but I've said all along, I've always been a big fan of his," president of basketball operations Flip Saunders told reporters...
MINNEAPOLIS -- The biggest kid in the gym.
A sparkplug. A locker room guy. A leader. An upstanding citizen.
They're all titles that Ronny Turiaf has earned during his eight-year NBA adventure, and rightfully so. Few professional athletes are handed multiyear, multimillion-dollar contracts to fulfill such capacities.
"You just can't find guys like that," Timberwolves...
Hampered by an ACL injury that cut into his second NBA season, Ricky Rubio watched in envy last summer as Spain took the United States to the brink of a gold-medal upset in the London Olympics.
Monday, he spent good chunks of time sitting and observing his national team, too, even though nothing was reportedly wrong with him.
As Rubio's production at Eurobasket 2013 has slipped...
Ronny Turiaf has traded elbows with Nikola Pekovic in the post and chased Ricky Rubio around the court in international competition long enough.
The eight-year veteran said he's happy to join the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he will serve as a mentor and an extra big man off the bench to help prepare the younger players for what everyone expects will be a run at the franchise...
If he wishes to earn another championship with Spain, Ricky Rubio will have to wait until at least next summer's FIBA World Cup.
With another lackluster performance by the Timberwolves point guard, Spain fell 75-72 to France in Friday's EuroBasket semifinals. Rubio scored just two points, snagged two rebounds and dished out one assist in 15 minutes, 19 seconds of court time...
MINNEAPOLIS -- For every source of excitement, a cautionary qualifier.
The Minnesota Timberwolves returners' learned the hard way last year how easily optimism can crumble in a heap of frustration. Injury after injury after injury derailed whatever plans they had of returning the franchise to mid-2000s form and eventually helped run president of basketball operations David Kahn...
In less than six weeks, former Louisville center Gorgui Dieng will make his NBA debut. Since being drafted in June, Dieng participated in the NBA Summer League with his new team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and has been living in Minneapolis for the past month.
The T-Wolves started pre-training camp practice this week and Dieng appears to be fitting in nicely with his new team.
This is the ninth in a 17-part series profiling each player on the Timberwolves' roster leading up to training camp.
There are certainly less enviable scenarios a veteran NBA point guard could find himself in.
J.J. Barea enters the eighth year of his career as the favorite to back up Timberwolves star Ricky Rubio. The 6-foot, 175-pound Puerto Rican is due a nice chunk of change...

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor appeared to be pretty confident that Rick Adelman was going to return as the team’s head coach in the 2013-14 season despite problems with his wife’s health. Taylor’s confidence has now been backed up by Adelman himself, who has told Taylor that he will return as the head coach...

The Minnesota Timberwolves are discussing bringing A.J. Price into training camp, according to a source.
Price played for the Washington Wizards last season and received significant minutes in stretches when John Wall was sidelined.
Price is represented by Jeff Schwartz, who has had extensive dialogue with Flip Saunders in the offseason.
