Despite having an overall record of 40-108 over the course of the last two seasons, the Cleveland Cavaliers have picked up the 2013-14 option for head coach Byron Scott, Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The 51-year-old Scott took over for the departed Mike Brown during what was one of the most tumultuous summers in team history. The only remaining players who were on the roster which was inherited by Scott in 2010 are center Anderson Varejao and guard Daniel Gibson. As Schmitt Boyer points out, Scott guided the team through a 2010-11 season that included a league-record 26-game losing streak and was able to keep the team focused and united. Scott was also instrumental in both NBA Drafts which occurred with him at the helm, landing two backcourt pieces in point guard (and reigning Rookie of the Year) Kyrie Irving and shooting guard Dion Waiters. During his fourth season in New Orleans, Scott led a reconstructed Hornets team to the Western Conference semifinals, doing so with one of the best young point guards in the league in Chris Paul. Hopes are that he can do the same — in time — with Irving and the rest of his young teammates. [Related: Preseason Games Complete, But Cavaliers Far From Finished]
