The NBA has announced that regular season games will be played in London and Mexico City during the 2013-14 season. The San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves will face off at Mexico City Arena on December 4, and the Atlanta Hawks will match up with the Brooklyn Nets at the O2 Arena in London on January 16. It is the first time regular season games will be played outside the United States and Canada. In March the league also announced that eight preseason games will be played in several countries from October 5-18. Including the games announced on Tuesday, the NBA will have 12 teams playing 10 regular-season and preseason games in eight cities and six countries and territories next season. The London game will be the 12th NBA contest played in the city and the Mexico City matchup will be the 21st game played in Mexico. The league has a full slate of exhibition games scheduled for overseas locations. The Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers will play in Manila on October 10, and Taipei in October 13. The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors will play in Beijing (October 15) and Shanghai (October 18). The Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers will also play on October 8 in Manchester, England, while the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards will do battle on October 12 in Rio de Janeiro. The Thunder will also face Turkey’s Fenerbahce on October 5 in Istanbul, the 76ers will face Bilbao Basket on October 6 in Spain.
