Greg Oden underwent microfracture surgery number two on his left knee and his third overall. It’s really not looking good for him right now. He says he has no plans to retire, he is just 24, after all, but it’s tough to imagine him making it back from this. While it is unfortunate that Oden has met yet another setback when it comes to his health, I find it troubling that Oden’s injury immediately brings on a fresh onslaught of the dreaded “B” word. I realize the Trailblazers picked Oden at the expense of drafting Kevin Durant, but I still think it’s unfair to label him a bust. Perhaps it’s splitting hairs, but I have trouble calling someone a bust due to unavoidable injuries. Oden, by all accounts, has worked hard to be a professional basketball player, but through no fault of his own, has suffered injury after injury. He isn’t Jay Williams blowing out his knee by crashing a motorcycle, his injuries came during his line of work. Sure, ...

Portland Trail Blazers, Greg Oden, and the career that should have been

It was announced yesterday that Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers, had his third microfracture surgery in 4 years. That’s unbelievable! Three microfracture surgeries in 4 years, that has to be some kind of record (I’m about to get Ripley on line 1). At this point I question if there are any original parts in his knees. I image that he knees are full of Silly Putty...

Blazers' Oden has microfracture surgery

The Portland Trail Blazers say that a procedure to clear debris out of center Greg Oden's left knee resulted in another microfracture surgery. Oden had the surgery on Monday in Vail, Colo. Although it was originally expected to be an arthroscopic procedure to clean out the 7-footer's knee, the surgeon determined there was additional damage. The former No.1 pick in the 2007...

Blazers’ Greg Oden: worst #1 overall pick ever?

Since leaving the Ohio State Buckeyes for his predicted one-and-done season, Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden has played 82 games in the NBA. That’s a full non-lockout shortened season. Problem is Oden wasn’t drafted first overall in 2010 or 2011. It was 2007. Oden had an arthroscopy to clean out his left knee, but doctors determined there was additional damage...

Report: Blazers’ C Greg Oden out for season following microfracture surgery

As reported earlier today here on Rant Sports, injury-riddled Portland Trailblazers center was set to undergo his fifth knee operation in the past two years this afternoon in Aspen, Colorado. It was expected this surgery would be only to clear out debris from his left knee, however, once the procedure was begun it was discovered that Oden indeed had substantial surface damage...

Reported by the Associated Press, the procedure performed in Vail, Colorado established that there had been additional damage sustained by the 7-footer’s left knee. The first-overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft...

Greg Oden’s Broken Career & The Reason Why It Hurts So Much

I found myself two tables away from a conference room’s closed doors in June of 2007. I watched Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard, Martell Webster, LaMarcus Aldridge and the rest of the Trail Blazers walk into the restaurant’s private section, and then close the doors. It was a day before the NBA Draft, and Portland [...]

Will Blazers release Oden to free up roster spot to sign Przybilla?

Last year at this time, Joel Przybilla wasn’t even sure if he’d survive the February 24 NBA trade deadline and be a part of the Portland Trail Blazers for the rest of their season. Now twelve months later and not having played since last March after a trade to Charlotte, the free agent center is back in limbo with the Blazers. Except this time around, Portland is playing the...
