I posted some photos from the Shamrock Gala. in the post below.  The mission of the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation is to extend the reach of the Celtics into the community through programs that directly benefit children in need. To do this, the Foundation partners with New England-based non-profit organizations who provide vital services to youth. The Foundation offers funding and resources to help increase the collective impact in the community. This year's gala helped the Boston Celtics raise more than $1 million for the Shamrock Foundation. The team's entire roster and coaching staff were present for Friday's event, which included a reception for guests to interact with the players and coaches, followed by a dinner and a formal introduction of this season's team. This year's gala also honored Paul Pierce with the New England Baptist Hospital Community Champion Award for his 15 years of community involvement and service. Back in the 1960's, it was common for a player to spend their whole career with a team. But, in these days of max contracts and marketing, a player, especially a star player, who stays with the same team for their whole career is very rare. Paul Pierce is one of those rare players and his number will definitely hang in the rafters with the other Celtics legends. From ESPH, here are some thoughts from Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge on Paul Pierce and the honor given him at the Gala for his 15 years of service in Boston. "Well it tells you what the Celtics are," said Rivers. "When you look at the history of the Celtics, Tommy Heinsohn, a career Celtic, Bill Russell. I mean, it goes on and on. There are a lot of guys that start here and finish here, and I think it really has to do with the tradition of the Celtics." Added president of basketball operations Danny Ainge: "I think there's some players that are special enough, like Paul, in a storied franchise like the Celtics that I think [he] is one of the best five players anyway. Maybe better, but one of the best five players, and maybe the best offensive player in Celtics history. "And, because he's done it so consistently, and he's done it for such a long period of time, his durability is a talent in its own right. Paul plays with a lot of pain and a lot of injuries and he's overcome a lot, and carried a team when the team wasn't very good. He's a special player. It's been fun being with him." Stronger case for Sixth Man of the Year: Terry or Green?

For the first time in team history, it seems the Boston Celtics will have two legitimate candidates for NBA Sixth Man of the Year in Jason Terry (a former winner) and Jeff Green. Both will come off the bench, both will get plenty of minutes, and both will seemingly get some votes. But who has the upper hand in this battle? Jeff Green looks like he will have a career year. Hes shooting...

Rajon Rondo’s never-ending search for a free throw that works

One of the most impressive turn-around this preseason has been Rajon Rondo’s free throw shooting.  He shot 77% from the line, giving us the hope that his effectiveness can continue, and provide the Celtics a new scoring weapon. But one thing stood out with Rondo at the line.  His routine looks different.  Every coach in the basketball world will tell you that a good, consistent...

Your Morning Dump… where Doc likes the week off (and where Courtney Lee can jump really high)

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I like it,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers told reporters following the team’s practice on Thursday. “I’d rather have this than playing on Friday, I’ll say that.” Boston closed out its preseason schedule...

Closer look: Rajon Rondo home/away Hyperfuse 2012

Here we get a look at another one of Rajon’s new player exclusive kicks for the 2012-13 season. These are the Nike Hyperfuse high. The pair in the first pic have an all-black tongue & volt accents and appear to be the “home version”. The “away” version are quite similar, only with the black accents reversed and on the toe box. Both shoes feature Rondo’s “R9R”...

Sean Grande interviews the Big Ticket

This audio of Kevin Garnett speaking with Sean Grande, the radio voice of the Boston Celtics, is from Media Day 2012. It aired a couple of weeks ago during halftime of a C’s preseason game. In it, KG pulls no punches as he speaks about Danny’s new acquisitions and his love for the city of Boston. The best part of the interview however is when Ticket talks about the legendary...

We’re giving away 5 Celtics t-shirts from Sportiqe!

The folks at Sportiqe want us to give away some of their slick t-shirts. Since I like to keep things simple, tell me which Celtics player said: “We just feel like all the other teams (besides the Heat) are going to be just opponents – we’re going to beat and handle them.” Post your answer in the comments section below. The first 5 correct responses win a Sportiqe t-shirt...

Boston Celtics: Life After Ubuntu

If you listen to Jason Terry in this video it sounds like the Celtics are still trying to find their way with less than a week left before opening day.  But I beg to differ.  Boston is one of the rare teams that has made wholesale changes in the off-season and won a championship the same year. Miami tried it, but we all know the result.  Winning a championship is purely about...

Celtics' mission is to kill whoever they're against

Those are not my words, they are Jet's, quoted and slightly paraphrased from a wonderfully written Grantland piece by Amos Barshad. Are you somehow still not psyched about Jason Terry? Do you have questions about Celtics' spirit before the season starts? Please read that article and get psyched. (Also, it will probably feel quite refreshing after reading items in which Allen...

Do any of the preseason stats actually matter?

The quick and obvious answer is "no." But, I think there are a few trends we can identify from the Celtics exhibition numbers that very well may carry over into the regular season: Is Sullinger the C's best rebounder? - Jared Sullinger led the team in rebounds, averaging 7 per game. It wouldn't surprise me to see Sullinger finish the year as the C' leading...

Video: Rajon Rondo "Take it Easy" mix

Video mix by the green man himself, ScarryLarry. A lot of old Rondo highlights, but good ones nonetheless. Music by Common (back when he was at his best). Less than 2 days until opening night.

Ray Allen speaks about Boston Celtics to Jackie MacMullan, doesn’t sound very sincere

Ray Allen gave an interview to Jackie MacMullan recently (read it if you haven’t), presumably so he could finally get all of his thoughts about the Boston Celtics off his chest and stop the media from badgering him about his past team on a daily basis.I personally thought Ray’s comments reeked of insincerity and wrote several hundreds of words about it on MassLive, but you can...

Would Delonte West be a good fit with the Boston Celtics?

Could Delonte West be headed back to Boston? If you haven’t heard the latest news from the Delonte West camp, it’s not great. West, whose struggles have been well-documented and thoroughly examined, was suspended indefinitely from the Dallas Mavericks, then cut. He took to Twitter to plead his case (probably a less than responsible choice, but there you have it), and the Mavericks...

Does Ray belong in the rafters?

As Ray Allen continues to flap his gums now that he is surrounded by the games biggest prima-donnas, one has to wonder if he is not only burning the bridge, but blowing the thing sky-high between he and Boston. The burns were bad enough that Ray opted to take less money to join the Celtics biggest rival of this generation, but as if that were not enough Ray has used every opportunity...

Celtic fans the best when it comes to showing loyalty and support

Who can forget last year's Eastern Conference Finals Game 6 memorable show of class and support for the lads in green by the green-teamers. Doc had already pulled the 'Big Three' and the third-string unit was still playing disciplined basketball in spite of the circumstances. You can see the emotional affect it had on the whole team.  Kevin Garnett cited it as The...
