Will Eric Gordon be in New Orleans next season?credit: losthatsportsblog.com At this point, it’s safe to say that Eric Gordon’s tenure in New Orleans has been less than great. After being the main piece to come over to the Hornets/Pelicans in exchange for Chris Paul, Gordon’s time has been dictated by continuing injuries and an inability to put together consistent play. The organization matched the offer sheet given to Gordon by the Phoenix Suns this offseason, even after the shooting guard seemed to want to leave New Orleans. With Anthony Davis now in town, it appears that Eric Gordon is no longer the perceived cornerstone of the franchise. As a matter of fact, he may not even be in New Orleans next season. Via Nola.com: With concrete plans to make the team better by next season, New Orleans Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps didn’t rule out the possibility the franchise could trade shooting guard Eric Gordon this summer. During an end of season news conference Monday at the New Orleans Arena, Demps said if a deal arises with Gordon or any other player the Pelicans will have to look at it after finishing with a 27-55 record and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Gordon led the Hornets with a 17.0 scoring average, but he missed 40 games due to a right knee injury and had strict restrictions imposed by team doctors that held him out of the second game of back-to-back sets to avoid overworking his knee. “To say if I anticipate him being back – I don’t know if that’s something I can answer right now, or him not to be back,’’ Demps said. “We’re going to sit down and evaluate every situation and opportunity. This would certainly be a pretty significant change of direction for the soon-to-be Pelicans, who viewed Eric Gordon as the prolific scorer who they could build around for the foreseeable future. It would be interesting to see what the market for him would be, as his big contract and injury concerns will derail plenty of front offices around the league. You have to believe that a team around the league would like his scoring, but New Orleans might not get the value that they expect. -Mark Evans, Assistant Manager/Editor of Content Follow us on Twitter The post Pelicans GM Doesn’t Rule Out Trading Eric Gordon appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.
