PLAYERS: Paul Pierce
TEAMS: Boston Celtics
The Celtics are on a four game losing streak. They’re 20-21 at the halfway point for the season. What are they missing? A backup center? A backup point guard? A top flight NBA scorer? According to the captain Paul Pierce it’s simply, mental toughness. Following last night’s demoralizing game in which Kyrie Irving had his way with the Green, Pierce talked about the team’s mental state: “I think that’s the one thing this team lacks, that mental toughness, man. When we lose our confidence, I’ve never been on teams like that. We got to stay together, we got to play with confidence. “Yeah, definitely, it hurts me to say that. It’s like I really sometimes don’t believe it. “We get down on ourselves. We got to go out there and believe we can win every game. It’s tough sometimes.” Mental toughness is not something that’s easy to pick up at the trade deadline. I like the players on this team and the skill sets they individually bring to the court, however they are lacking something.

Your Morning Dump… Where Paul Pierce isn’t himself

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.. Pierce, battling a terrible shooting slump, connected on 6 of 15 shots overall, but it wasn’t the fact that he missed nine attempts; it was the fact that he passed up open looks in key moments and then let the...

Paul Pierce Left Off All-Star Team for First Time in Five Years, Celtics Coach Doc Rivers Cites Voting ‘By-Laws’ for Sub-.500 Teams

BOSTON — The last time Paul Pierce stayed home for NBA All-Star Weekend, the Celtics’ record made it difficult to whine about the snub. The Celtics went 24-58 in the last year of the pre-”New Big Three” era while Pierce, for the first time in his career, spent more than a month watching with major injury as his team give away game after game. There is no serious injury this...

Comments from the Other Side - Knicks 1/24

Much better effort from the Celtics even if the result wasn't different.  There is definitely something going on with Paul Pierce - just not playing well at all.   The Knick fans weren't quite as bad as they usually are but as always, the stabbing jokes are disgusting.  At least there weren't as many death and injury wishes as usual.   And surprisingly,  some Knicks...

The last chance for the Boston Celtics

It’s the last chance for the Boston Celtics to establish themselves of the Eastern Conference Three weeks ago when the Boston Celtics defeated the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, it was seen as a turning point of the Boston Celtics season. It was the middle of six-game winning streak that reestablished the Celtics defensive swagger, none more evident than the game against...

Another Year Another Ride

The Celtics are all to familiar with the emotions of "a day at the park" Being a Celtics fan for a season is almost like going to Six Flags, or any other amusement park, for the day. The anticipation to get there is unbearable and all you can do is sit and think about the possible outcomes of a day at the park. You finally get there and reality hits you, theres a lot of...

Carmelo ready for trash-talk rematch

Carmelo Anthony says he just wants a victory in Boston and has moved on from the trash-talking incident with Celtics forward Kevin Garnett that eventually got him suspended one game. “I don’t care what message I sent to him,’’

Comments from the Other Side - Cavs 1/22

I'm not sure what to think about this team any more. They showed during the win streak that they can play the right way. But then they don't. Not even after Doc called them out. They have to get it together, starting with the defense.   This losing stuff is getting old.  I want a W because I despise everything Buh-stun. Will be interesting to see how Waiters plays...

Kyrie Eleison: Cleveland Cavaliers beat Boston Celtics 95-90

Kyrie Eleison: Latin for "Lord Have Mercy."I’m going to keep this brief because I’m too angry to think rationally about this (I actually took a break from the game and put a moratorium on my in-game tweeting when I returned because I was too likely to say something stupid).Kyrie Irving was amazing. There’s no way around this. He single-handedly dominated Rondo (and...

Kevin Garnett Believes Consistent Effort Is ‘Part of Job,’ But Celtics Still Searching for Nightly Intensity

BOSTON — As the ball bounced off Paul Pierce‘s knee and out of bounds, ending the Celtics’ chances of a last-second, game-tying shot, the Celtics could only take solace in the knowledge that, finally, a lack of intensity would not be their downfall. This time, the Celtics played hard the whole way but failed to execute in the clutch. They turned the ball over on two crucial...

“The locker room has become a playhouse…”

After Rajon Rondo called out his teammates for not taking losses as hard as they probably should, there’s more coming out about the state of the C’s locker room. The Celtics are a team — and that’s not counting Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett — that believes because they are Celtics, because Rivers is the coach, and because the organization has been successful...
