I've been staying away from all the trade rumors because most of them are just that - rumors - and for the most part won't ever be more than that. If a trade happens, it happens. But I refuse to go in circles with all the leaks, sources, opinions, and frivolity that is going around. It seems every time I turn around there is another "source" saying that Paul Pierce is going to Atlanta or KG is going to LA or whatever. I prefer to dwell on statements like this from Celtics owner, Wyc Grousbeck “I’d be delighted to have the team stay this way, just as it is, because I like watching them play.” or this statement from Danny Ainge “I like watching our team. Our team is very fun to watch. I love how hard our guys play and compete. They do need some support with some extra bodies for the rest of the year. I definitely need to do that, to add some players to our roster. But that’s all that we need to do.” Of course, I know that when Danny denies the most, he's usually got something up his sleeve so he very much could pull the trigger on a blockbuster or two. But, it's just too hard on my nervous system to follow every rumor out there and so I choose to just ignore them. I will be so happy when Thursday is over and done with. With that out of the way, on to the more cheerful news of the signing of Terrence Williams to a 10 day contract. Williams was drafted 11th overall in 2009 by the Nets. After his rookie season, he broke team rules several times which led to a trade to the Rockets, who waived him after 11 games. He then finished the season with the Sacramento Kings. After a training camp with the Pistons in 2012, Williams then signed in China to play for Guangdong Southern Tigers where he averaged 17.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.9 turnovers in 27 minutes per game. He shot 47.9% from the field and 31.7% from beyond the arc. He left the Tigers last month due to a death in the family. There are a few Celtics ties in Williams past. He worked out for the Celtics this past summer and Doc was impressed with his experience at the time. Courtney Lee and Williams were teammates with both the Nets and the Rockets. Jason Terry and Williams are both from the Seattle area and have played together in the summers. Terry sees the benefit of playing with vets like Paul Pierce, KG and himself as a big advantage for Williams and gives the signing his vote of approval. "Playing with him in the summer," Terry said. "Playing against him ... just seeing him and seeing his work ethic, I know he's a tremendous talent." "There just hasn't been a Kevin Garnett, or Paul, guys, myself, that he can look up to and respect," Terry said in reference to the three teams (Houston, Brooklyn and Detroit). "The kid works hard; he's a Seattle kid. And so, he's welcome." Just to give you an idea of his athleticism, here is a video with 3 highlight dunks in a Houston Rockets' game vs the Spurs. One of the dunks includes an assist from Courtney Lee, perhaps an omen of things to come on the Celtics. Williams deal is reportedly a 10 day contract, which gives the Celtics some flexibility. If Danny is indeed working on a trade of some kind, this contract won't affect the salary cap. It also gives the Celtics 10 days to evaluate Williams fit on the Celtics and they then can sign him to a second 10 day contract if they still feel they need more time to evaluate his performance, or they can sign him for the rest of the season. If he has matured and can play up to his abilities, he may be one of those low risk, high reward signings we hear about. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
