Ray Allen has been shelved during a few recent games for an injury that seems relatively minor, at least on the surface. Nobody seems overly worried about it.EXCEPT ME, DAMN IT!Allen has a history of ankle issues. He’s 36 years old. Said ankles are swelling up after he plays games. Jackie MacMullan, one of the finest Celtics reporters ever, said she’s heard grumblings that Allen will require surgery at some point. Doc Rivers noted he wasn’t sure whether Allen would need surgery, which is probably code for, “Yeah, that might be an option at some point.” Allen injured the ankle on March 12 against the Clippers, played five more games with it, had to shut it down temporarily because the ankle just wasn’t responding, played five games after returning from his absence, and then had to shut it down again, missing the Hawks game last night and at least one more in the Toronto game.Do we see a pattern here? Ray Allen doubtful to return to the Celtics on Saturday against New Jersey

This news comes on the heels of hearing that Allen didn't make the trip to Toronto for tonight's game against the Raptors. Some thought that this might have been Doc Rivers' way of resting some of his veterans during this brutal back-to-back-to-back. Let Ray have the first game off, rest up and throw him out there for a normal back-to-back scenario. That's...

Ray Allen’s injury not thought to be serious, says Doc Rivers

I’ve started to become a little worried by the ankle injury that won’t go away, but Doc Rivers assures us Ray Allen’s ankle will be okay, even though the sharp-shooter will miss at least the next two games. (Boston Globe)“It’s not that serious, it’s swelling,” Rivers said of Allen’s ankle injury. “I’m concerned when anybody’s injured. It’s not a serious...

The Value of Taking a Punch

I've often wondered why the sport of boxing today has fallen to such incredible lows in popularity. I do fully understand the brutality of the sport and that our country's best athletes can make millions of more dollars playing sports where they don't get their faces bashed in. Still, all the time you hear people talking about sports in terms of boxing. Two heavyweights...

Ray Allen not going to Toronto

That ankle is not right. With Pietrus back, you might as well have Ray Allen sit for this entire three game stretch. We can only hope Ray will be able to tough it out through the playoffs.

Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade: Players should get payed for playing in Olympics

*** Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade agree on something. Coming from two teams that absolutely despise one-another, Wade and Allen are in agreement over the much discussed issue of payment to Olympians. Here’s both of their arguments… It’s a lot of things you do for the Olympics — a lot of jerseys you sell,” Wade [...]

Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade think players should get paid for Olympics

Don’t you think NBA players get paid enough? Now a couple of NBA players think they should get paid for the Olympics. I could see if they are the lower level NBA players, but the best NBA players play in the Olympics. These players already make millions of dollars, they don’t need more money for competing for their country. Boston Celtics star Ray Allen is one...

Dwyane Wade & Ray Allen want to be paid to play in Olympics

Playing for your country isn’t enough for some NBA players. FoxSports.com is reporting future Hall of Famers Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade want to be paid to play in the Olympics in London this summer. According to Allen, “Everybody says, ‘Play for your country.’ But [N.B.A. players are] commodities, your businesses. You think about it, you do camps in the summer, you have various...

Mickael Pietrus to Play Limited Minutes Against Hawks, Ray Allen Sits With Swollen Ankle

BOSTON -- Mickael Pietrus was in good spirits about an hour before tip-off on Wednesday, predicting he would be back "soon." "Soon" turned out to be very, very soon. Pietrus was activated for Wednesday's game against the Hawks, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said prior to the game. That bit of good news for the Celtics on the injury front was tempered by the news...

Your Morning Dump... Where Doc had to keep KG on the floor

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. "His minutes were low, but he was going in that 12 minutes in a  row stretch which we try to avoid with him, " Rivers said. "But we had to keep him out on the floor...

Vet disapproves of paying Olympic athletes

Vince Boryla can't go to his left very well anymore. Or even to his right. He doesn't crash the boards or set picks like back when he earned the nickname "Moose." But if anybody wants to challenge him, nothing has changed from six decades ago. "I just think it's mind-boggling that the thought would come to anybody's mind that Olympic players should...

NBA Athletes Who Want Pay For The Olympics, Simply Should Not Play

There was a bit of controversy before the first “Dream Team” was assembled to represent the USA in basketball in the 1992 Summer Olympics. The Olympic Games had been conceived as a showcase for amateur athletes and even though many countries had used professional players for years on their basketball squads; this nation stuck to fielding a team of college players. That resulted...

Colangelo says paying Olympians not feasible

Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen believe NBA players should be paid for participating in the Olympics. But it's not going to happen anytime soon. At least that's the word from USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo. "It's never been discussed and it's not even feasible in the reality of economics," Colangelo said by phone Wednesday night. Allen, a Boston guard...
