Celtics came-out of the gate on fire tonight. KG was hitting shots early & often, the defense was focused & guys had a spring in their step. Rajon was distributing the ball well from the jump- he had 5 assists in the first quarter alone to help get the C’s out to an early 26-12 lead after 1. The Wizards bench then got Washington right back into it behind Kevin Seraphin’s 10 pts on 5 for 5 shooting in the 2nd quarter. 20 of the Wizards’ 30 2nd quarter points came from their reserves. Despite losing some of the defensive intensity we saw in the 1st quarter, Boston went into the half with a 49-42 lead. Celtics continued to play well in the 3rd. Until about the 3:10 mark. The Wizards bench players took over again, namely Kevin Seraphin & Jordan Crawford, and ended the 3rd on a 13-4 run. Washington was hanging around, and the C’s clung to a 71-67 lead entering the final quarter. The 4th was ugly. Both teams mustered up 2 points a piece through the 9:51 mark. Then, Jeff Green ...

Danny Ainge hints that Jeff Green does not match up well with Miami Heat, and he might be right

Note: This post is not meant to scream, JEFF GREEN’S GOING TO SCORE NO MORE THAN THREE POINTS EVERY TIME HE PLAYS THE MIAMI HEAT!!” or “THE CELTICS ARE SCREWED BECAUSE THEY’RE TOO MUCH LIKE THE MIAMI HEAT!!” It’s simply to advance the conversation about how the Celtics’ on-court relationship with their biggest Eastern Conference rival has evolved. I fear I sound more...

Must-listen for Celtics fans: “A.G.E. Open Season”

We don’t often post music here at RedsArmy, but when someone reps Boston and the Celtics as well as the Showoff Records crew does, it must be acknowledged. Last year, Statik Selektah dropped the “A.G.E.” (All Green Everything) mixtape. It featured JFK Showoff, Reks, Termanology & many other artists. What got my attention was the Boston Celtics theme and then when I listened...

WE Game Recap; Wizards vs. Celtics: Wiz Fail to Close Out Again, Drop Home Opener

celtics 89 wizards 8611/3/2012 - Verizon Center, Washington, D.C. ESPN BoxscoreNBA.com Game Highlights Wizards Player of the Game Jordan Crawford narrowly edges out Kevin Seraphin for player of the game. Jordan has been much maligned by me and Wizard fans in general for his “questionable” shot selection but tonight he was a one man scoring machine. Jordan proved that...

Bucks trample Celtics 99-88

Wow was that awful. I mean it’s one thing to lose to the Heat but the Bucks? At home? In the home opener? The Bucks? And Monta Ellis didn’t even have a good night? Here’s the rundown of the good and the bad from tonight (WARNING: mostly bad):Sullinger looked really solid in the first half. He finished the game with six points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes. Sullinger also...

Celtics survive Wizards (barely) 89-86

Well that was better, I guess.  The Celtics survived a nail-biter against the Washington Wizards (WITHOUT John Wall and Nene) after they blew a sizable lead. But I’ll TRY to be positive and accept our first win of the season on the second night of a back-to-back, and chalk it up to the Celtics playing down to inferior competition. Let’s get to the recap:Sullinger got the...

Celtics win ugly, beating Wizards reserves by 3

(We had a late scratch for the recap, but longtime reader Jenda has stepped in with a guest recap). Let's start with bad news. The first quarter was a fluke. Randy Wittman and his assistants still have to gel together as a coaching staff and they take a little longer to get into the game. They did so in second quarter and outscored the Celts 30-23. Most damage was done inside...

Taking Stock: Celtics – Bucks

After every game, we’ll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player’s overall value. Starters Rajon Rondo:  One play in particular sticks out in my mind.  At 5:00 in the first quarter, after a Jeff Green miss from the corner, the Bucks rebounded and got it to Monta Ellis.  He whipped a pass up to Brandon Jennings at half court.  At that point, he was...

Thoughts from last night's "win"

My sister and I with a pair of Rondo's game shoes! I was lucky enough to attend the game last night in DC. I went with my mom and sister and had awesome seats about 10 rows up. This gave me a chance to really watch the Celtics up close and personal, and what I saw was a team that is still working on finding its identity.  The Wizards are a terrible basketball team. I said...

Celtics get first win over Wiz-kids but what does it mean?

The Celtics beat the Washington Wizards last night, but it was not a feel good story.  Boston ran out to a 16 point lead, then just went through the motions and were fortunate to escape with a win. Is it time to push the panic button? Of course not.  Last season the team had no chemistry issues, but still crawled out of the gates with an 0-3 start.  This year with essentially...

What's the Problem?

It seems to me that the problem with the Celtics so far is one of chemistry. This is understandable since only 4 of the players on the court were with the Celtics at the end of last year. Back when Doc was able to return the same core group season after season, they got off to a quick start and chemistry wasn't a problem. But players are still learning the system. Rondo is...

Start of NBA Season Finds Lakers, Celtics With More Questions Than Answers So Far (Podcast)

The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder -- all expected to contend for an NBA title this season -- did not start their seasons off on the right foot. The Celtics fell to the rival Miami Heat, the Lakers flopped out of the game 0-2 and the Thunder traded away one of their best players just before losing their opener on a buzzer beater. Still...
