With Fab Melo staying with the parent club and Kris Joseph released,   we haven't been paying as much attention to the Red Claws. but it's time to update on the news coming out of Maine. First up, Kris Joseph, who was released by the Celtics on January 6 ahead of the deadline for guaranteeing all contracts,  has returned to the Maine Red Claws on a D-League contract is expected to join the Red Claws in Springfield, MA as the team faces the Springfield Armor tomorrow night at 7:00 pm ET. Joseph had originally considered signing a contract in France but changed his mind because he felt that the D-League is the best way to get back to the NBA. I really liked what I was from Joseph. I think he has a big upside and hopefully he can continue to grow his game in Maine and maybe get another shot with the Celtics next season. Joseph appeared in 10 games on assignment with the Red Claws before he was released from the Celtics. He averaged 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game over the 10 games. To make room on the Red Claws' roster for Joseph, forward DaJuan Summers, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, has been moved to the Inactive List. The Red Claws announced that 4 Red Claws players have been selected to participate in the 2013 NBA Development League All-Star Game to be held at Sprint Arena at NBA All-Star Jam Session at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center at 3 PM (ET) on Saturday, February 16. The 4 players chosen are: guard Shelvin Mack, forward DaJuan Summers, forward Chris Wright and guard/forward Micah Downs. Downs was one of the last cuts from the Celtics training camp roster and has been playing very well in Maine. Red Claws Head Coach Mike Taylor and his staff will coach the Futures Team at the 2013 NBA Development League All-Star Game when the Prospects and Futures teams take to the court at Sprint Arena on February 16. Taylor, along with assistant coaches Tunde Adekola and J.P. Clark, earned the trip to Houston by virtue of a 17-10 record and winning a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Canton Charge, who had the same record through games of Jan. 27, for the League’s second-best winning percentage. Doc Rivers: Media made up trade rumors

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers says the recent trade rumors around the teams star players have all been made up by the media. "All from [the media]," the Celtics' coach said

Old man Paul Pierce is doing what Rajon Rondo did for Boston Celtics

When Celtics All Star Rajon Rondo was lost to a season ending injury he was dominating the NBA in triple doubles, even posting one in each of his final two games.  In Boston’s first contest without Rondo, Paul Pierce managed a trible double of his own.  During the C’s 5 game winning streak Pierce has continually put up some very Rondo-esque numbers.  His scoring is down...

Kevin Garnett Reaches 25,000-Point Plateau, an Amazing Achievement for Player Seldom Appreciated as Elite Scorer

BOSTON — Kevin Garnett has about as much use for individual milestones as he does for size 7 basketball sneakers. Neither really fits his game. Still, there was no denying that Garnett was visibly moved on Thursday, when his turnaround jump shot with eight minutes left in the second quarter gave him 25,000 points for his career. A few minutes later, when the achievement was announced...

Kevin Garnett on Trade Rumors: “I Bleed Green, But It’s a Business”

I am on record saying that the Celtics window has closed and it is time to blow up the team. KG and Paul Pierce would be considered valuable assets to teams who are in a position to make a NBA Finals run.  Every trade should be explored by Danny Ainge at this point. KG has a no trade clause, but from these quotes it appears if the right trade came around he would be interested....

Doc Rivers Calls Celtics Trade Rumors Silly, Media Driven

With the loss of Rajon Rondo for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, there have come a ton of trade rumors regarding their two biggest stars, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. The two players have laughed the rumors off, but Doc Rivers has not, and according to ESPN Boston, Rivers referred to them as “silly and media driven.” “All from [the media],” the Celtics...

Gino Time! Celtics 116, Lakers 95 as Celtics win sixth straight

I do not want to highlight one player in tonight’s win, as this was truly one of the Celtics best team efforts of the year.  In direct opposition to what I just said, the only player I do want to highlight is Kevin Garnett, who got his 25,000th point tonight with a fade-away jumper.  His response? Thanking all the people who helped him get there and finished with a “it’s...

Recap: C’s ride vintage KG, clutch Barbosa to disjointed, ugly win

Allow me to be the first to reference a “turn back the clock performance” by Kevin Garnett.  KG put up 27 and 10 to carry the Celtics… and he did it in just 32 minutes and 18 shots.  Leandro Barbosa chipped in 14 points, 12 in the 4th quarter, to erase a 10 point Raptors lead to start the 4th, and steal a 99-95 win. How night-and-day was this game?  The Raptors won the 1st...

Garnett And Pierce Quiet Trade Rumors, Lead Celtics To Fifth Straight Post-Rondo

Celtics 99, Raptors 95 Earlier this week Kevin Garnett responded to rumors that the Celtics core players may be traded with a simple, defiant phrase. He told reporters, “I bleed green” and in Boston’s fifth consecutive win at Toronto on Wednesday night, he proved it. Garnett posted a vintage line with 27 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes, while shooting an efficient 11-18...

Kevin Garnett Breaks 25,000 Career Points Barrier

He may be getting older; he may get surly from time to time; and he is definitely not the fantasy stud that he once was, but he is still one of the best players to ever step onto the hard court for the NBA. I'm talking about Kevin Garnett who became the 16th player in the history of the league to break the 25,000 career points barrier. The shot in question came a few...

Memorable sports moment of the week – The Boston Celtics retire Larry Bird’s jersey number 33

Roughly six months after retiring due to chronic back ailments, the Celtics promptly retired Larry Bird’s jersey number 33 at a special ceremony at the Boston Garden 20 years ago last Monday on February 4, 1993. The 6-foot-9, 220 pound … Continue reading →

Kendrick Perkins Provides Support for Rajon Rondo in ACL Recovery, Says Biggest Hurdle Will Be Mentally

Rajon Rondo is looking at a long road back from ACL surgery, but he’ll have a familiar face helping him along as he recovers. Former Celtics teammate Kendrick Perkins, now with the Oklahoma City Thunder, had a similar injury in 2010, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Perkins was back on the court within seven...

Vote: Have the Lakers or Celtics Been a Bigger Disappointment This Season?

Boston and Los Angeles are not only the two most storied franchises in NBA history, but there’s a lot of history between the two teams, as well. Unfortunately, despite big expectations neither team’s season has gone according to plan so far. Both L.A. and Boston come into Thursday night’s game streaking a little bit. After winning six in a row, then losing six in a row in January...
