Don't look now, but the Boston Celtics have been creeping up the standings in the Eastern Conference.  Last night, the C's quite arguably had their most impressive win on the season with a 91-72 blowout victory over the Miami Heat.

Boston was in control from the start thanks to a brilliant first quarter from Rajon Rondo. After leading by 5 at the half, the Celtics outscored the Heat 31 to 12 in the third quarter to put the game away.

Rondo had his fifth triple-double on the season with a 16 point, 11 rebound, and 14 assist performance. The Celtics have their toughest stretch of the season with their next six games being against playoff teams including the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and a rematch with Miami.

Since the All-Star break, Boston is 15-5 and surpassed the Philadelphia 76ers in the Atlantic Division. Their play of late has been extremely impressive considering some key players have been missing significant time due to injury. Avery Bradley has been a nice spark in the lineup for the injured Ray Allen. Bradley is considered one of the best on-ball defenders in the NBA as he showed last night with a remarkable block on Dwayne Wade sending the All-Star to the ground.

The starting lineup accounted for 78 points, led by Paul Pierce with 23-points. Brandon Bass chipped in 16-points and Bradley had 13 as each starter scored in double-digits. Boston's defense bothered "The Big 3" all afternoon as Chris Bosh was held to 4-points on 2-11 shooting. Dwayne Wade scored 15 on 8-17 shooting, and LeBron James was a ghost for most of the game, while leading Miami with 23-points he failed to record a single assist for only the second time in his career.

Miami's play of late has many questioning whether or not another team can knock them off come playoff time, as the Celtics play have many wondering if they could be that team. This has been the most intriguing Celtics team in quite some time. No one expected them to still be hanging around in the East being so old and their roster so thin. Just a few short weeks ago many thought it was time to blowup the roster and begin to rebuild. Winning cures all and thats excatly what Boson has done. Come playoff time, this is the most dangerous team out there, they have experience and confidence to compete against anyone. No one will be more important to their success down the stretch and in the playoffs than Rondo. Yesterday, he was the best player on the court, as he usually is in big games. It's when the game isn't on national TV that will make you think he is playing under the influence.

Just when you think they're dead, the Celtics find a way to make you a believer again. It's not always pretty and flashy, but Boston is still able to contend with hard-nosed defense and timely offense.  Regardless what happens with this years' Boston Celtics team one thing is for sure and that's they will not give up, even if you already have.

TL;DR The Celtics dominated the Miami Heat in Boston yesterday.

VIDEO: Full Highlights of Rondo's Triple Double vs Heat

The Celtics are just beginning the "daunting" part of their schedule, or as I like to call it, the "fun" part. Rajon Rondo started off April with a bang.  His 18th career triple double was only fooling Miami yesterday as he notched 16 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists with only 2 turnovers. Rondo has just been on a tear since the All-star break, consistently...

Rajon Rondo…Good Teammate?

While many may call me crazy for posting such an article, fresh off an electrifying triple double against the Miami Heat, I offer that the performance from Celtics star point guard Rajon Rondo only further solidifies the argument I am about to make. Rajon Rondo is not a good teammate. So before you “X” out [...]

Rondo Dismantles Miami, Leaves Me In Need Of A Late Pass

Did you spend your Sunday afternoon watching the second half of ABC’s doubleheader?  If so, then you maybe have seen me.  Section one, row ten, seat eight, grey fitted hat with the sticker.  I was next to that guy with enough fake jewelry to open his own kiosk, and two seats behind Rajon Rondo’s wife, who spent most of the game lint rolling.  I accidentally left the camera...

Taking Stock: C's - Heat

After every game, we'll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player's overall value. Starters  Rajon Rondo:  Screw the green arrow, Rondo deserves a gold star for his performance. His 1st quarter was phenomenal: 10 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds. The Heat knew they were in for a fight right from the start. He managed the game brilliantly...

Rise of the Boston Celtics

Rajon Rondo has been nothing short of spectacular since the All-Star Break The Boston Celtics were just about dead a month ago, there is zero doubt about that. They were headed towards a playoff’s where they would get dominated by the Miami Heat or the Chicago Bulls. Every member of the Boston Celtics, including their best two players Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce, were on the trade...

Rajon Rondo's Stellar Play Proving He's Capable of Being Cornerstone of Celtics' Future (Podcast)

Rajon Rondo is having a terrific season for the Celtics, and he's continuing to get better as the season progresses. The same can be said of the Celtics as a whole, as Doc Rivers' group has now won five in a row after dismantling the Miami Heat on national television on Sunday night. Rondo has recorded 13 straight double-digit assist games, putting to rest any doubt that...

Kentucky-Kansas NCAA Championship Game Makes Rivals of Celtics Teammates Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce

BOSTON –- Paul Pierce decorated his locker with three University of Kansas hats and a T-shirt Sunday, showing off his school pride in advance of the Jayhawks' showdown with Kentucky in the NCAA men's basketball championship on Monday night. After the game, Pierce confidently predicted his alma mater would win. "He has to say that," said teammate Rajon Rondo, a...

Quicker Celtics playing some of their best ball of Big 3 era

Two years ago the Celtics played .500 ball the 2nd half of the season, yet still made it to the NBA Finals. Last year the C's played sub .500 ball the 2nd half of the season and were knocked out of the playoffs in the 2nd round. This year the Celtics seemed destined to regress even further unless they made some roster changes. The two key additions were supposed to be a full...

Can the Boston Celtics Make One More Run?

It wasn’t too long ago that it looked like the Boston Celtics were going to be blown up. Rajon Rondo was shopped for the better part of the season. Ray Allen was available for the right combination of picks and young players. There were even rumors that Paul Pierce was available, again, for the right price. I don’t think anyone would have been really surprised if Danny Ainge...

Starting 5: Rondo loves the spotlight, Westbook's dunk of the year entry & Thibs is being very careful with Rose

Every morning, we'll give you five things from the night before in the NBA to start your day. 1:  Rajon Rondo loves the spotlight Rajon Rondo dropped 16 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds on the Miami Heat in an utterly dominant performance, which surprises few in the Boston Celtics community.  They know that when the spotlight is on Rondo in a nationally televised game,...

Rajon Rondo replacing Kidd as the new triple-double king?

Over the course of his career Jason Kidd has been a stat machine. His 107 triple-doubles ranks him third all-time behind Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson which puts him in some pretty lofty company to say the least. But with Jason Kidd now at the very tail end of his career, Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo may be starting to cement himself as the league’s new triple-double...

Paul Pierce named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

If my calculations are correct, Pierce averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals this week, while being overlooked by fans in favor of heaping praise on Kevin Garnett and/or Rajon Rondo approximately 15,398,387 times. (Note: Don’t take that as an insult to KG or Rondo. Both deserve all the praise they’ve gotten, just like Pierce deserves a lot more praise...
