Fox Sports Florida:
Hall of Famer Jerry Sloan said he interviewed Wednesday for the Portland coaching job but has removed himself from consideration.
Sloan said Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey flew to Salt Lake City to interview him. However, Sloan called the team Thursday to pull out.
I talked to them yesterday, Sloan said in a phone interview with FOX Sports Florida. But it just didnt work out on my part.
Sloan said he didnt want to give reasons as to why the position didnt ultimately interest him.
Sloan had told FOX Sports Florida in May he wanted to return to coaching after being out since resigning from Utah in February 2011. Since then, he also has interviewed for the Charlotte job, but he pulled out of the running for that one as well.
Sloan said he has not talked to any other teams since then. He has not been contacted by Orlando, the only other team along with Portland that doesn't currently have a coach.
The Trail Blazers are looking for a coach after having fired Nate McMillan last March and Caleb Kaneles finished the season as an interim coach.
I was a candidate, Sloan said about Olshey coming to Salt Lake City for what Sloan considered a formal interview.
Sloan, who led the Jazz to the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals and was named to the Hall of Fame in 2009, was asked to what degree now he wants to again be an NBA coach.
It depends what Im doing, said the no-nonsense Sloan.

The Portland Trail Blazers pursued Hall-of-Fame coaches Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan for their head coaching position and were spurned by both, according to a Comcast Sports Northwest report. The Blazers offered Sloan the job this week, and pursued Jackson over the past few months, a source told Comcast Sports Northwest. Blazers general manager Neil Olshey confirmed the team...
Portland Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey says the team will match any offers for French swingman Nicolas Batum.
Olshey's comments came Wednesday after speculation the team might be working on a sign-and-trade with Minnesota, which was interested in the restricted free agent.
Olshey said he believes Batum has more value than what Minnesota would be able to offer.
The Portland Trail Blazers have formally signed free agent power forward J.J. Hickson, British forward Joel Freeland and draft picks Damian Lillard and Meyers Leonard.
The flurry of signings was announced by the Blazers on Friday.
Hickson, who agreed to 1-year deal with Portland, played in 19 games for the Blazers last season, averaging 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds.
The most pressing needs for the Portland Trail Blazers as they move through the summer are at point guard and power forward. The early focus has been on moves to fortify the frontcourt. The Blazers have signed one European forward (Victor Claver) and will soon sign another (Joel Freeland). And there were unsubstantiated reports that J.J Hickson, a restricted free agent who finished...
NWSB Insider Bryant Knox poses a good question/option for Team USA. Could Team USA use a healthy LaMarcus Aldridge? Not since Clyde Drexler has the Portland TrailBlazers fielded an Olympian. With Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh and Blake Griffin out because of injuries, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Love and Anthony Davis are the lone big men on this year’s team.
The Portland Trail Blazers re-signed free agent power forward J.J. Hickson to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million. Hickson was claimed off waivers from the Kings in March and averaged 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds in 19 games. Hickson was thought to be expendable when the Blazers extended a lucrative offer sheet to restricted free agent Roy Hibbert and drafted Meyers Leonard...
MINNEAPOLIS On Friday evening, the Minnesota Timberwolves completed what appeared to be the final step in clearing enough salary cap space to sign restricted free-agent small forward Nicolas Batum to an offer sheet. However, a league technicality will impede them from doing so until 5 p.m. ET Sunday.
After releasing small forward Martell Webster and trading center Brad Miller to...
Injury-riddled Greg Oden could be returning to the NBA this season.
Thats the word from Odens agent, Mike Conley, who got a call earlier this week from Oden. He said his client has changed his tune from wanting to take this season off.
(Oden) called me, and he was kind of excited, Conley said Thursday in a phone interview with FOX Sports Florida. I think hes motivated . He wants...
MINNEAPOLIS The Minnesota Timberwolves are still attempting to work out an agreement on a sign-and-trade deal to acquire small forward Nicolas Batum from the Portland Trail Blazers, according to a league source.
The team hopes to resolve the situation by the end of the day, and if a sign-and-trade agreement cant be reached, it is poised to present Batum a restricted free agent...
This just in: Roy Hibbert isn’t coming to Portland. This also just in: The sky isn’t falling.
As I write this, it’s apparent that the coveted free agent (restricted as he may be) center the Portland Trail Blazers targeted will not be a Blazer. The restricted free agent (Nicolas Batum) they currently hold the rights to allegedly wants out. And former team president...
