Found July 09, 2013 on Project Spurs:
When the San Antonio Spurs grabbed Marco Belinelli with a cheap deal (two-years, $6 million), the writing was just about on the wall: Gary Neal, a restricted free agent this offseason, would not return. Belinelli replicated much of Neal's duties, likely at a reduced cost, so it seemed a tad redundant to roster two similar players.   Or, you know, maybe not.   According to ESPN.com's Jared Zwerling, league sources believe the Spurs will "likely" re-sign Neal. The Milwaukee Bucks haven't been shy this offseason, signing O.J. Mayo and making a push for Neal -- his services reportedly interest three other teams as well.   San Antonio own's Neal's Bird Rights, and have enough wiggle room under the luxury tax ($71.6 million) to make a deal work. The backcourt at that juncture would be awfully jammed -- Tony Parker, Danny Green, Manu Ginobili, Cory Joseph, Nando De Colo and Patty Mills are also expected to contribute minutes -- and that depth allows the Spurs to venture into the trade market  aggressively. Each player earns a respectable salary, making it even easier to facilitate a deal for a wing or future asset.   I'm still on the fence with this potential move, especially if Neal earns a decent sum of money, but putting a bunch of productive role players in Gregg Popovich's system is almost never a bad thing.

San Antonio Spurs: Marco Belinelli Signing Grade

San Antonio Spurs: Marco Belinelli Signing Grade By Brandon Hartman Belinelli’s contract: 2 years, 6 million Analysis: The signing of the seventh year guard out of Italy is all about adding and replacing depth for the Spurs. This move might seem a strange one at first glance, seeing that they already have the dynamic Danny Green and an aging legend in Manu Ginobli at shooting guard...

Report: Bucks have interest in Gary Neal

Four days ago word came out that San Antonio Spurs restricted free agent guard Gary Neal was gaining attention on the open market and the Spurs might not be able to match the price teams are asking for Neal. Though none of those team names were released, it seems the Milwaukee Bucks are one of four teams who have interest in Neal according to Gery Woelfel of the JournalTimes...

De Colo surprised Spurs want him at Summer League

The San Antonio Spurs released their 2013 Vegas Summer League roster and listed was guard Nando De Colo. De Colo is coming off an up-and-down rookie season and went through some growing pains along the way including voicing frustration at being buried on the bench as the season progressed. But if time on the court is what Nando is looking for, he is certainly going to get...

Belinelli: I want to play with the best and win

Marco Belinelli is 27, an age where most athletes sustain peak performance for a few years before their athleticism drops off as they enter their early 30's, and the San Antonio Spurs will be his fifth professional team (Golden State, New Orleans, Toronto, Chicago) in seven seasons. A precarious position, to be sure.   He's played on just two playoff teams -- the...

Video: Matt Bonner plays the tambourine to the song 'La Bamba'

San Antonio Spurs' Matt Bonner is a man of many talents. He is deadly from the three-point line, is a sandwich aficionado, an actor (Coach B), a comedian, and it appears he is also quite the musician. Bonner was caught playing the tambourine with the band "Deer Tick" to the song "La Bamba." Yeah so I better just shut up so you can just check out this...

Jean-Charles on being drafted by Spurs and his goals

With the 28th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs selected forward Livio Jean-Charles from France.  The pick may have left some Spurs fans scratching their heads but recall the team did pick another Frenchman at the same spot many years ago and Tony Parker turned out to be a draft day steal. Something the team is hoping Livio will turn out to be once he makes his...

Video: Aron Baynes - Slam Dunk Champ

It hasn't been the most exciting San Antonio Spurs offseason -- doesn't Jeff Pendergraph for two-years, $4 million just wet your appetite? -- but, with the championship window dwindling every year and the margin for error decreasing in a jammed Western Conference, San Antonio needs to capitalize on the few moves they make. A championship is at stake, after all.   ...

Report: Bucks’ Pursuing Gary Neal

Gary Neal got hot during the NBA Playoffs, and it might allow him to cash out with a nice payday. The Racine Journal Times is reporting that the Milwaukee Bucks are one of four teams in pursuit of the Spurs restricted free agent guard. Bucks are 1 of 4 teams in mix for Gary Neal. — Gery Woelfel (@GeryWoelfel) July 9, 2013 The Spurs signed guard Marco Belinelli last week, and...

Brazil will be without Splitter this summer

Aside from the wheeling and dealing of NBA free agency during the offseason, personally I enjoy the summer basketball tournaments overseas. It truly is competitive and tough going when a chance to qualify for Olympic play is on the line.  Foreign born NBA players usually jump at the chance to represent their home country, much to the dismay of their respective NBA fan base and...

Video: Did you know Davis Bertans plays with a missing finger?

Forward Davis Bertans (traded to the San Antonio Spurs during the 2011 NBA Draft) is currently on the road to recovery after suffering an ACL tear which required surgery. He is in good spirits and is looking to come back a "beast" as he put it once he is back on the court. However, before he even stepped foot on a court, did you know he nearly lost his entire hand in...

Spurs, Kirilenko talks end with no deal

According to Yahoo! Sports, talks between the San Antonio Spurs and free agent Andrei Kirilenko have ended. The San Antonio Spurs' exploration of acquiring free-agent forward Andrei Kirilenko in a sign-and-trade agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves has passed without completion, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.   The Spurs seriously considered a multiyear...

Gary Neal To The Bucks?

The Bucks have been the subject of some recent rumors lately. Earlier, I reported that they  were in the mix for J.R. Smith, but then the Knicks ended re-signing J.R. Smith, which shot that rumor down. Now another rumor has surfaced, courtesy of Kurt Helin of Pro Basketball Talk on NBC Sports and Gery Woelfel of the Journal Times, which is that the Milwaukee Bucks are one of four...

Spurs Unable To Reach Deal For Kirilenko

The San Antonio Spurs pursued a sign-and-trade deal for Andrei Kirilenko, but talks with the Minnesota Timberwolves have broken off. Flip Saunders has shown little to no interest in facilitating a sign-and-trade for Kirilenko. The Wolves were interested in a combination of assets from the Spurs in exchange for Kirilenko, but were unable to take back the $8 million to $9 million in...

Decision Time Approaches for Greg Oden

With Dwight Howard deciding to “take his talents” to Houston, the list of available quality centers is dwindling down.  The San Antonio Spurs are not likely to pursue Andrew Bynum, due to his questionable health record, lack of willingness to work out for prospective teams and the limited access he gave teams to his medical records. Greg Oden, whom the Spurs have reportedly...
