After every game, we'll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player's overall value. Starters I'm not going to bother going through them all individually.  I'm sorry KG gets swept in this because he had a decent game.. but even he needed to do more.  If you're the only guy hitting them, then you need to be the guy taking them.  Sometimes, your job isn't to get other guys going, it's to start carrying the team yourself.  And let's not start on Rondo's night.  One of his worst games as a Celtic. Bench Same goes for the bench.  Avery Bradley and Mickael Pietrus get swept up in the putrid display.  They at least did something. But this is like standing next to the guy who got sprayed by a skunk.  It's going to get on you too... and it's impossible to get that stink out.  Coaching Doc Rivers:  I loved the outburst.  Those guys deserved it.  But why did...

Doc Rivers: Boston Celtics ‘not mentally tough enough to be winner’

The Boston Celtics traveled to Toronto, following the disappointing overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. From past experience, Celtics fans would have thought that the Raptors would be the perfect recipe for avenging there heart breaking, OT loss, to the Lakers. Not so fast. The Cs showed up in Toronto looking [...]

Boston Celtics Doc Rivers Has Age Issues

The last two days have demonstrated a clear issue for Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. The Boston Celtics played a very emotionally and physically draining game against the Lakers on Thursday in Boston. Both teams played hard for not only an entire forty eight minutes, but an additional five minutes as well for the overtime. In the end the Lakers managed to squeak out with a one point...

For Doc Rivers, watching son play means less worry

Doc Rivers says watching son Austin hit the winning shot for Duke was more fun than coaching.

Recap: I nailed the Celtics effort tonight

If you want to know what went wrong with the Celtics in Toronto, just read my preview. It was spot-on, minus the score. The highlight of the game was Doc Rivers outburst during a 20-second time-out. Doc walked onto the court and blasted his players. The above screen-grab (courtesy Chris Forsberg) is a timid snapshot of Doc's tirade. The Celtics sucked. Flat. Out. Sucked. Box score

Doc, Pierce, KG & Ray Post Game Pressers vs. Lakers

Doc Rivers looked defeated after his team met that fate against the Lakers. Kevin Garnett was left off the All-Star team for the first time in over a decade. Paul Pierce missed his chance to nail the game-winner. Ray Allen was open on the last play of regulation, but Pierce couldn’t get him the ball.

Celtics embarrassed by Toronto 86-74

There are clunkers, and then there are games like the Celtics played on Friday night. Of course, I'm giving the Celtics credit by saying that they actually "played" the Toronto Raptors. I think some more realistic terms would be "walked through," "forgot to attend" and "were in a coma for." I've seen more energy and aggressiveness...

Austin Rivers Hits Thrilling Shot, But Still Bearing Growing Pains

Austin Rivers, at the end of a college hoops spectacular, was mobbed by his teammates, his father, Doc Rivers, among them, went nuts watching his son drill a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to beat rivals North Carolina 85-84 Wednesday night in Chapel Hill.As the clock trickled, he pulled up, launched a rainbow three-pointer and stunned the Tar Heel folks, taking the air...

Celtics on the low end

With about four minutes left in the game last night, Doc Rivers put his hands on his knees, crouched down, and clapped loudly for his team to play defense, as if he were coaching his son Spencer’s high school team.

Your Morning Dump... Where Doc is still pissed off

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. "If they want to use the overtime [Thursday] night (as an excuse for Friday's poor performance), then we are not mentally tough enough to be a winner," Rivers said. "If you're...

Doc Rivers: Brandon Bass May Be Out ‘a While’ With Swollen Knee

Turns out that Brandon Bass’ right knee isn’t ready for game action, which comes as a surprise to his coach Doc Rivers. From the Boston Herald: “Brandon Bass, despite swelling in his right knee, returned for three games last week after missing only one game – Feb. 5 against Memphis. It now appears the Celtics forward may have rushed himself. [...] ‘The...

Brandon Bass will be out tonight and possibly until the All-Star break due to a sore knee that swelled up after Toronto’s shellacking of the Celtics Friday night. Doc Rivers said he will be out 10 days to two weeks because of the knee that kept him out of the win over the Grizzlies a [...]
